Thread: Armorsmiths UNITED against Cheap priced Armor

I am wondering whether there are any other armorsmiths out there that are outraged at the incredibly low prices that some armorsmiths charge for composite armor suits? In my situation, 80%kinetic armor can be found almost everywhere. So I mixed two special resists in my armor (to get 3 special resists near 80) and because of the time and resources I used to find the right combination I decided to charge a hefty fee - it took me almost 2 days to do this. (not 48hrs but 2 playing days so roughly 8hrs)

And by hefty fee I mean giving myself a profit of 400k per suit. What upset me was that other armorsmiths being jealous(?) of me getting a few clients decided to make an exact copy of my suit. The HAM on the copied suit was a bit higher by 100 to each, but the price they were selling was ridiculously low! The profit they made per suit if the cost to make is equivalent to mine would be 100k.

So in short, I think all armorsmiths should decide on a minimum profit % we should make on all our suits. Armorsmiths being one of the richest classes? I think not, especially with us having to spend 20-50cpu on materials! Weaponsmiths I think still make the most profit margin considering they pay on average 3-5cpu on materials and resell their final product at 20-50cpu based ratio. I mean if players bought armor on an occasional basis then by all means we can sell the suits for 250-300k a pop, but the fact is they don't.

Considering any elite combat class can purchase an 80%kinetic suit for 300k and make 600k easily doing janta missions for a few hours, it's ridiculous to be selling suits at that price. That one suit with buffs, of course, will allow that combat player to potentially earn 6 million credits off Janta missions.

forced to disagree with you. On saturday I stocked my vendor with 80% kinetic 71% base armor & was selling it for 30k a piece. After a good four hours of spamming in coronet, I had made over 4 million credits. I tipped anyone who bought a full set of armor 10k for buffs too btw. You can still make money without charging 65k for a chest plate.

Yes but don't you see, you won't get those customers coming back for a while. That 4million you made is your revenue until they destroy the chest plate. I made 4million selling 8 complete suits, players spend millions on weapons, and alot on food too. Why not spend the same amount on armor is all I'm saying.

It's almost as bad as one master artisan I ran into selling swoops for 10k each! He could've made way more selling the resources needed to make them

you sir are a fool... there is such a thin gas suply and demand. and you obviously have never been out of your little shop you can go through a suit of armor in a day. and i don't know if you know but in the real world in the U.S. it is illegaul to come together to set a price the econimy will balance it self. sorry for the speeling.

Two things.

Having 3 specials is probably worse then 2, if the base is decent, 'cause of slicing.

If it's vuln to stun and doesn't have a base over 70-75%, I prolly will pay about 400k for a suit (for a trandoshan) max, on Shadowfire (yes, I know there are sever discrepencies). Heck, I only paid abouta mil for a 40% stun/80%+ base suit, which is 10 times better than any kinetic layered comp suit. Basically, if you're getting 400k profit from each suit, the price isprolly a little high.

I know a little about armorsmith and know that it is fairly easy to pull off a 100-200% profit from each suit, especially if you're smart about it. Make a 80% kinetic suit and name it "hunting grade" or a energy suit and name it "faction grade". That way each of those suits is relatively cheap to make but have a good use. Or make great kinetic ubese, heavy melee grinders can go through a jacket in a day. As for richness, weapons generally decay a lot slower than armor, and a crate of food/drink can last a month if you're not stupid about it. Oh, and HAM doesn't mater if you can afford a set of comp, doc buffs take care of it.

Btw, as far as profit margins go, I'd have to say it's either docs or smugglers that have the highest.

Set of good doc buffs costs about 2k.

Each slice costs about 600 credits (at least for me, I harvest my own materials) from beginning to end. Charging 2k/slice it's about 300% profit. And you've got people charging up to 10k on some servers.

People are allowed to charge whatever they want for their own merchandise. Your prices seema bit... steep. Quality is usually better than quantity, but when the quality is the same, it's best to sell as many as you can, and that usually means lowering the prices. Why do you think gas stations used to rapidly lower their prices (before the gas crisis)? It's because more people will buy at a lower price, making the total income higher.

there is no conspiracy against you

it sounds like you think there is

as long as you make ANY profit you are doing fine, so I don't think you should complain

Hello,

To the person referring to gas stations, the reason they were selling for a low price was to eliminate the smaller gas stations. They were not selling gas for a profit when during the gas wars (i assume you are referring to the period gas was close to 40cents (cdn) per litre). This was a tactic to make the smaller gas companies unable to compete and thus have to shutdown.

Why do this? Because then the major companies have a monopoly over the gas market. I agree with you Elody (didn't realize you were an AS btw ) but I charge a bit more than usual because I don't want to be in front of a crafting station all day. So I tend to make custom suits, and make 200-300k profit per suit. I figure since it takes me at least 1hr to do I'm forfeiting making about 300k in janta missions as you pointed out.

So relax, some people are trying to weed out their competition through ridiculously low prices, but be glad that you still have some customers and can enjoy the rest of the game! Besides hopefully those who make factory runs will over-estimate their customer base and will be forced to sell their armors for cost (or hopefully at a loss LOL)

I price my armor ...well... to determine how often I want to make armor.. I never advertise or spam but I do get a lot of word of mouth and repeat business. If I wanted to I could underbid the entire market, yell my head off in Theed while the facs are running and repeat. However, I like to make a run of 14 comp suits a week and do other stuff besides make armor. I just dont see how selling and making armor constantlyis fun but if u like it then charge a minimum and craft away. A lot of new Armorsmiths ive seen lately underbid the market and find their vendors empty before they can restock- there goes their repeat customers...

I started AS to make armor for our guild, then our city.

our city now has 7-8 guilds, I don't need to advertise or spam in coronet to sell armor. I have gone from making cement heavy regular composite to some high end nice triple layered stuff.

I make armor for people not money.

that is the way it should be I think

I sell my Sliced Composite at 315k per suit (35k per piece). I slice my own stuff at no extra charge, so it would still be 315k for the suit unsliced.

My current run of suits is 80% Kinetic 65% Base, and I can wear a suit without buffs if all the pieces are even slightly encumb sliced.

Would you consider that cheap?

I don't even know how much it cost me to make the armor because I don't buy resources from anyone, I just get them myself. I guess it's all profit though...

Either way, banning together to raise prices is a horrible idea. In fact, anyone doing so would LOSE business and give it to the people that make up their own prices.

Good luck though,
