When making segments for armor cores.. there are four slots for layers.. if you fill all four with say.. primus.. you are making quad primus layered armor. Quad energy means you used four energy layers.. the more layers.. the higher the resistances you are layering , ideally.. depending on your skill , resources, and types of layers you use. It's more resource and time expensive, hence a higher cost. But well worth it imo. Hope that helps answer your question.
