(somehow posted before I wrote the body, anyway...)

Eclipse has had a recent trend of AS putting Cold Layered suits on their vendors and advertising like it's the newest, best thing. I rarely get hit with cold damage, since the only weapon that produces this is the SG82. I might run into a NS slave or Meatlump that is packing one, but it's no real danger.

Why would I want to buy a suit of this?

There is a Gorath armorsmith doing the same. I think they said it was because they can get the base percentages up higher or something.

As a protector, failure is not an option. if you fail not only does your future end, but the future of the one you're trying to protect ends as well.

You can do that with any suit of comp thats not layered for kinetic or energy.

To get base above 80% simple add 3 Electricity plates and u will have cold and 80%+(slice depending of course)

The reason to use cold, is that the damage type is rare, thus will not be a weakness when the armor is sliced to over 80% base....

The reason for not using elec layers is that they use different resources, it may well be that the AS on your server can get a higher base with cold than elec, an extra % or 2 in base is well worth leaving the cold at 80%....

here on gorath there are a few exceptional sg42 rifles or w/e there called going around with like 400 - 500 +min dmg and 800- 1000 + max dmg so cold layers are welcomed

Why not just leave all special protection layers out? Do these layers add to the base effectiveness as well?

Base gets higher with layers. Someone suggested the elecric layer because it's already a special on composite. Use that and you don't have to push anything to special.

it could be they have extra of the resources to make cold and of course stun or elec would be better but if they have lots of uber cold resources why not use it, also cold almost never gets hit allowing kin to be high with out making stun or elec

It's all about the effectiveness slicing.

Having up to 90% resistance to energy, kinetic, blast, and acid makes for a great all-around suit, incredibly useful in high-end PvE and for some PvP (depends on your server's stun-weapon usage).

I do a pretty good business selling suits & pieces of CryoComposite (80/80/72) from my vendors, but I also do a number of bulk orders for those who like to do a lot of slicing. Heck, I do it myself, too.

You get the same effect with cold, heat, or electric layers, but I think most folks prefer cold because the resources have been better (or are more readily available) on their servers. I've played around with Cryo-, Thermo-, and ElectroComposite variants, and any of them work fine. Though if you really want to be special, try exchanging one of the standard layers with a 10% stun layer. You might lose a percentage point on your base effectiveness, but you gain quite a bit of adaptability for certain applications.

the difference between 10%stun and 4%stun on the layers is mute on all pieces apart from helmet, your better off reducing hams after the base is maxed, 71%base 13%stun is my main line of composite, 3*4%stun layers
