Thread: Ideas for making RIS and Mandalorian worth the challenge

I know that RIS is not nearly as difficult to obtain as it has been in the past, but it still takes a fair amount of effort. Madalorian has been made even harder than before since the bunker rebalance.

RIS was supposed to be the ultimate melee armor, yet any run-of-the-mill assault armor can have better kinetic resists. Mandalorian was supposed to be the armor of choice for hunting jedi, but offers the weakest possible protection vs a lightsaber... I'd propose a simple change to make these armors worth the effort put into obtaining them. The extra condition is nice, but not enough. Something likea 500-1000 point kinetic bonus added to RIS pieces and a 1000-2000 point energy bonus added to Mandalorian pieces would both make the armors worth the effort put forth to obtain them and also allow them to fulfill their billed rolls.

I know there are other more pressing issues for the community now, but I was wondering what others thought about this as a long-term goal for exceptional armor types?

IMO those 'quest' armor sets, together with WS quest weaponsshould close the power gap between regular players and Jedi. I. e., a MBH clad in Mandalorian assault should be able to stand toe-to-toe with a full template Jedi.

Those armor sets should be good (exceptional protection and condition, general skill mods - either ranged or melee, depending on the armor, you get the idea), they should be hard to obtain (like Mando, RIS and the AV-21 speeder atm) and there should be more of them. ST or Clone Commando armor, Trandoshan Hunting armor, race specific quest armors for Wookies & Ithorians etc....

They would still be rare enough since they're hard to obtain and they decay, but they'd be worth the effort.

I agree fully. I was working from the viewpoint of existing assets, but other quested items should also be far and above normal ones, rather than the same with different graphics. Adding bonuses to resists and/or skill mods is somehting that I think would be very easy for the final step of the item combine. IE, my mando or RIS craft is identical, but the bonuses are added during the final appearance combine.

I've been kicking ideas around in my head for this as well. I'm concerned about getting our profession un-nerfed and unbugged before proposing new items though.

It's a tough balancing act, because I don't want us to go content-stasis either.

yay, lots of hampster wheel turning going on

The current RIS is frustrating and the current Mando is just plain silly as a jedi hunting armor.

Been thinking awhile on an similar idea but for all skins, not just the quest ones. An idea to make the skins a bit more destinctive without making one skin better than any other and also make elemental damage a bit more interesting in pvp without making all elemental weapons the best.

How about giving each skin built in elemental layers, for example composite could have +1000 electrical, -1000 acid, +500 heat, -500 cold. While Chitin might have +1000 heat, -1000 cold, +500 acid, -500 electrical or something similar, and the other skins would have their own strengths and weaknesses.

As long as you keep it to elemantal resists it shouldn't unbalance anything but should make it more varied and interesting as you will now have a reason to have several different weapons in your arsenal.

as long as we are making a wish list... how about just adding schematics for recon, battle and assault for both types of quest armor. might be nice to see both a bulkier and a sleeker set of RIS
