I've been reading up on the posts in the guides and everything and most of them seem to be referring to how armor used to be made before the CU with composite and the like. I'm wondering how if anything has changed since the CU in how layers, segments, cores, etc should be crafted. Thanks.

There are no similarities for me between post and pre CU. I'm only a 1/1/1/2 AS, but the biggest difference I see is that it is no longer possible to craft without a factory. Since armor requires identical cores and segments.
