Since posting last week, ive now dropped master doc and am on my path to amoursmith. I am currently novice armoursmith and can safely say that you guys were right. Its a dman sight more complecated than doc. Even at novice armoursmith im forced to buy multiple factories to produce segments, synth cloth etc etc in. These arent just novilties that can be worked around like advanced componants in the doc proffession, these bad boys are required, full stop.
Luckily i have nice bank roll from my doc proffession and sale of all my old buff stock so buying resoucres and factoires wont be a probelm once i find someone selling them.
Ive read all the newbie posts and have decided that the route i will take is to work my way up to master, have a mess around with layers etc etc and just use low quality resources. I wont be selling anything i make on this journey. Once i get to master, i appreciate that it will unlock a whole new choice of options. Once i get there, i will start my hunt for the higher level resources and look to playing around and expirmenting. I'll probably sell these attempts to noobs who cant afford anything pricey.
Does this sound like a reasonable plan?
BTW, im not a holo grinder... i was doc since before xmas and have always fancied armoursmith, espcially as there seems to be fewer and fewer on my server now. (unlike doc where there are newbie docs appearing all the time. This is leading to a strange change in the state of the proffession. Its full of noob docs selling 1600 buffs but ruled by the long time masters who now have a monoply on buff sales and buy all the best resources for crazy prices like 280cpu. Although im a fairly decent master whose been around a while, i wont/refuse to compete with that, so have decided to hang up my thermometer.)

Sounds good...however.
I reccomend that you start looking for high quality resourses now, that way when you hit master you are a bit more prepaired. Keep close attention to Wooly & leathery hide...at this time you need them for the 2 most popular sets of armor (but don't forget the wonders of Chitin or Padded either), Ubese & Composite....hopefully this trend will change....one day.

Its a good plan. Good luck.
Heh, Jekkra, it will change. All it will take is Mandalorian Armor to be released, and everyone will forget about everything else. It will either have super stats or people will want it just for the look.
Unless Bounty Hunters get their wish...
