Hello,

I new to Armor Smithing. I have been making Advanced Padded armor.

1) Is there a market for this?

2) What are decent stats for this armor?

3) What is a fair price for a full set of padded (minus the ugly helmet)?

4) Am I wasting my time?

I do not think that it is a coincedence that i am a chess master and a master of pvp. If you suck at pvp but you are a chess master i'd bet you can't hit a baseball for shet. Your problem may be hand eye coordination.." - H'bsr

1) Is there a market for this?

yes, but very little. Most people want it for the looks since there is a large color palette to choose from.

2) What are decent stats for this armor?

depends if you use layers or not. it will be heavier than Ubese, but lighter than composite. Average resist stats are around 30% (can be higher depending on resouces, experimenting, layers, and segment enhancers).

3) What is a fair price for a full set of padded (minus the ugly helmet)?

depends on the server. Check around other armorsmith vendors to see if they sell padded.

4) Am I wasting my time?

A lot of armorsmiths will say "yes" since Padded armor requires a lot of named hide and resources to make. Also since the stats aren't that great in the end for what you need to make it.

I agree mostly with what was said above.. but recently alot of armorsmiths have been looking for a way out of composite and ubese. Personally, I see THIS could be it, if it is done properly. I havnt tried it yet, but i have collected all the resources I need.

this recent change you speak of is when the Devs fixed Rancor padded armor segments so they can be used now. There was a bug preventing them being used in Padded armor (the only armor they could be used in). So, people that had been saving some rare high quality rancor padded segments can use them and have been getting some very good results. I saw someone that made a chestplate with 80% effectiveness and low encumbrance (low for Padded).

Too bad the helmet is so ugly. Maybe that should be the number #1 armor change request from us. Or you could always wear a helmet from a different armor type.

Irecently obtained 5 pieces of 42% base acklay hide. I can't wait to see the padded armor that this will make - although I'll only get to make 2 or3pieces.

The best part about padded is that the biceps, bracers, boots and gloves all require only 1 segment each, so that if you find say 6 segments you can make them all if you want. Not to mention that if you make a few larger pieces you will always have something to spend the remaining segments on.

On the questions in this thread:
1) There is a surprisingly large market once you get above 70% in a popular special resist, for instance useing 2 kinetic layers.
2) A base of 40%+ would be decent. 45% good, 50%+ near perfect (unless you use high base layers of coarse).
3) Selling 75% kinetic padded at barely above my 80% kinetic composite price. Justifying this with the high cost, still selling like hotcakes.
4) Maybe. Composite is alot easier, since you can easily massproduce it and get loads of sales. With padded most will want customcoloration hence massproduction goes out the window.

WarTorn: Speaking of this chestplate? Made useing theese segments. (experimentation hit 80% base way before the resources capped). Or perhaps you were thinking of what some guy did with 110% (120%?) base ackley segments some time back?

Padded armor is heavy...period.

I have good resources for it. Unlayered, I'm hitting 42-43% base. I just made a suit last night and now remember why I don't make the stuff. It's heavy.I can get 50-60% base on comp with the same HAM.

That being said, it sure looks nice. I plan to make myself a set experimented to lower encumbrance, but you won't see me fighting in it.

So far, this is the only armor that I've seen that the looted segments are useful in. They keep the weight down and the resists aren't terrible.

Yeah just as a change I have been making some for folks on Gorath bored and wanting some color. To reduce encumberance I went with Heat layers based on my Mal on resources and I'm pushing out a 50% base with HAM below most base composite. Is it a better choice then composite? No. But it looks cool and the color schemes are fun.

I see my role to be at least partially to have my city and server having fun. Padded is s small relief from my 75% Ubese or 70% Base composite!

Try it out....people enjoy it! Women love the pink on pink or white on white!
