Dear Orical Forum,
Being new to the armoursmith profesion , i would like some advise on how to start.
should i gather the resorces that are required to make armour no matter the Quality to get started, or wate and gather all the best i can?
Should i start on ubese and padded then work up to comp. or just focus on 1 type untill i get that hang of being an as?
My charter name is Spitfire and im on infinity, if anyone can share there advise or pearls of wisdom. can u post on the forum, mail me or send me a tell. thank you

* Focus on one type of armour, gather the resources for that for a while.
* Jump on any good spawn of resources you see.
* Experiment often to really understand how the armour works.
* Ask your customers what they want to see.
* Find a niche while you build up cash to fund your resource habit.
* Work out your prices and stick to them.
* Ask friends or scouts to hunt for you, and treat them well.
* Always treat customers well, and they'll keep coming back.
And remember, you're not addicted until you know your resources by name, and can reel off the requirements for armour suits without looking at a schematic

and...
whilst doing all your experimentation, make gloves.... most (if not all) don't even need factory crated items, and have the smallest resource requirements

best thing to harvest on yavin is tonns and tonns of mainians (think thats spelt right). Ill be going there as soon as my servers hide shifts out...need to collect enough hide for 100-200 suits of padded to get started with /grin

Yeh the hard part starts after you reach "Master" Armorsmith, and i too am in the process of getting resources, having made it to Master AS about 2/3 weeks ago.
After one week i had enough to make 200 sets of ubese at 71/22 stats, and was very happy, ive already sold about 90 sets within a week, at 85k each, and every day my sales grow. I gathered all the leathery hide myself with help from a few friends, managed to buy some good axidite iron/neutronium steel, but harvested the rest of the resources myself. Id advise you to start with ubese which is much easier to make/sell than padded armor, as padded armor has many organics and the demand for it isnt so great.
If you play it smart, you can make a living off ubese armorwhilst gathering the res for composite. You should always be aware of res, and spend a lot of time checking resources, unless your on a server who uses swgcraft.com extensively, where you could just rely on the information there. Its not particularly reliable on my server, which is one of the smallest, and hence i spend a few hours checking as many resources out as i can. Basically you cant afford to miss out on a good spawn of resource, it might be months before the next good spawn of that resource comes out.
Another idea may be to start preparing for the new wookie armor thats on the test centre right now. Not many AS will have obtained the resources needed in making this armor, and so you might be able to be one of the only AS's who produces the new wookie armor when it goes live. Personally, ive already started to gather some of the good lokian leathery thats currently in circulation on my server.
In summary, find a niche market to settle yourself in, whether it be padded or ubese or wookie armor on your server, and start with that, whilst gathering the resources for composite. Read the stickies at the top of the thread, and get the help of your friends, and always always be on the look out for good resources.

Good questions. Too many people are only concerned with "grinding" their way to Master as fast as they can, only to learn they can't make anything afterwards. I'll tell you, if you're a Novice AS with Large quantities of High Quality Hides, metal and chemicals (all depending on the armor you want to make) you are much much closer to being a Good armorsmith than a So called Master AS with poor or few resources. Of course it is possible to buy everything you'll need, but this is pricey and you won't find everything you want available, when you need it. So if you're in it for the long haul I'd concentrate on resource gathering until you have huge stacks of the good materials. Best of luck.
