Reading about the CU is making me sick for my smith. All the different types of armor and colors that players will be requesting now is making my head spin. Here is an idea that would solve a ton of problems for smiths.
Craft 3 types of armor. Recon, Assault, Battle.
Once made have it be in a deed form.
When a player purchase it they pick the armor they are certified for or want.
Once they receive the armor they can open the deed and pick the type and color based on their taste.
This will allow smiths to focus on armor and not the cosmetic effects of it. It would allow us to mass produce armor. People like different types. This would allow them a choice of which armor they wish to wear after purchase.
Dont know if they can do this but it would be nice.

people will say specialize, but thats lame. i want to be able to make every type of armor and sell them on demand. I dont want to be stuck crafting one type of armor. how boring would that be? the way it is currently, i doubt that will be possible. its like tellinga weaponsmith to only make one type of gun. How well do think that would fly?

If they did it like my suggestion you can specialize with resist. All armor is cosmetic now. You either have recon, battle, or assault armor. Chitin, mabari, composite... ect.. is all cosmetic and has no effect on how good the armor is. So if a smith wants to specialize on advanced battle with acid layers they can. Having them in deed form would allow people to select which model of armor and the ability to make the color they want.
This new system and the way its setup is pandoras box. There will be so many combinations smiths are not going to make all those types of armor. For example, there are going to be people who want Ubese in advanced assault black with heat layers. A smith cannot specialize in all the cosmetic visuals of armor that everyone wants. Provide it in a deed form and they can pick the visuals. Let us specialize in the armor type and layers. It would be alot easier on the smiths. And you cant compare us to weaponsmiths. We are a different animal.

Right now each type of armor is different. In the CU there are only 3 types and the difference will be layers. Bone, Wookie, Ubese, Padded, Mabari, Ris, Faction, Composite, Tantel, and others are only for cosmetic purpose.

yeah.. but you cant put on the armor without the appearance... so technically speaking you can make a variety of armors nearly 3 times as many as now... i'm sure most AS's like myself now just choose a color and resist type and stock taht alone... which works...
but the work has gone up 10 fold at the very least

I HATE makeing it piece by piece!!!
I have a life yaknow, a Jedi, a combat toon, there are OTHER things to do then craft armor 1 piece at a time
I am a MASS-PRODUCTION Armorsmtih!!!!
I do not want this to become a second job/life hand makeing every color that is in demand in all the high demand armors in EVERYCLASS!!!
The deed idead kinda sounds cool, buy a "Basic Battle-armor" deed then click RIS then color. boom done be on your way...
Better yet!!! Make it where armor color can be changed at will like comp is now or make color packs like paint packs for ships!!!
Problem solved...
I sell on average 4-600 suits of armor a month, most being comp (I make 5 classes and types of comp currently) I dont want to specialize, I want to make 1 schematic and stock then play the game

Thumbs up to the original poster! This sounds like a great idea.
Is that bio-linked or whatever thingy still part of the combat nerf (it sounded kind of silly).

Armorsmiths 'specialize' now. Once the entire profession is grinded out, armorsmiths produce 4 types of armor:
1) Cheap Ubese for grinders.
2) Comp for grinders.
3) Stun Comp for PvP
4) PSGs... normally of the lightsaber variety
Umm... what's the difference from that to what you'll have post-CURB? I'm not trying to troll, I just want to know.
Frankly, I think this is resource change is a good thing overall for the game. Yes, the vets who stockpiled the best possible resources are getting hurt. But I have to ask, aren't most of you so rich it really doesn't matter?
If anything, this helps new armorsmiths finally crack into the profession. I made a crafting character and chose Droid Engineer due to the fact I knew it would be nearly impossible to crack into the armorsmith and weaponsmith trades. Why? Because I don't have access to the 'uber' resources everyone else has had.
For an MMO to continue to function, it has to have changes. For an MMO to grow, the new players need to actually have a chance to get into whatever profession they would like to be in. I understand your anger about losing all your valuable resources... but if you quit the game over it... well, I'm sorry, there is no other way to put this: you are taking the game WAY too personally and seriously.

If that is your complaint, why have we not seen such a dramatic paradigm shift in Weaponsmith??? Only the Armorsmith side got the crap nerfed out of it. I am so sorry you did not get a chance to do armorsmith but may I remind you that EVERY ONE OF US started the game without the best resources. Build an Armorsmith and start collecting. 2 years from now you will be where we are today... those of us who collected the best stuff over the past 2 years. By then I am sure you will be annoyed too. SOE wil I am sure have changed crafting and resource requiremens 2 or 3 times more by then.
