Hey,

Looted some rancor hides... 13% base/int 1600/heat 10/cold 5/

What is the highest they go in base? Is there any other practical use for them other then RIS?

Hey nice loot here....Rancor hides are enhancements used when crafting a segement. They are optional so it is basically like a free raise in the base. Lets say I can make 60% Base composite without any Rancor Hide. If you add your 13% to the base you now have 73% base composite as aposed to 60% using the enhancement.

Hope that helps!

I am just going by that. 13% would be on the ubah side of them but is more than a possibility of happening.

I have some 13% rancor hides, but they say (exceptional) on them.

Furia, Kavala, Xana, Tarantella (Xana's alt, before NGE), all cancelled.(3 accts total)

Wow, that is interesting. I look at them again... no exceptional on mine.

One question from a new smith... what do I need to do to get Kinetic into base, in comp armor??? Do I just put stun layers in comp segement?

these would be good for a stun helmet to slice it to 90% base or RIS

if.....they arent rancor segments

double check

Nope, not segments, hides. Just like the box containers for GDKs, Woola bones, Gurks, Janta, and peko peko feathers. I'm still a noob at smith construction but I do understand what a layer, segment, and hide are thanks to someones nice sticky up top and some fine people in this forum. And a special thanks to a couple of MAS on Kauri. Who's that guy that run Valhalla Armor??? He put up with all my stupid questions

I use heat layers at 4% and get the base to 4% then experiment the base to 90% and I come up with 80/80 heat/elect 70% base that includes kinetic. If you don't use kinetic layers in the making of the segement, kinetic won't be a special protection.

A friend of mine gave me 2 of them. I made 2 RIS Helmet out of them. One with 40% stun and one with 43% acid. The final base was 69%. The stun helm got an encumbrance slice and the acid helm got an effective slice. Both helm has 80% kinetic resist. I'm gonna ADK them and do some PVP and see how well that works.

I wouldn't recomend using that for composite because you would need a set 4 just for a helm and one bad slice and the hides are waisted. RIS is best bet cause you only need one. Use Janta hides for composite. They're cheaper and doesn't add to ham.

If you rather not make RIS out of them then try 2-4% base Blast layers with Padded armor. With good resource you could hit 69% base. And if you get a 34% effective slice you can get 90% base. But, you would still have vulnerbiltiy to acid and stun. Again this would be inferior to really good acklay hide segments used for padded armor.

that would be me lol

and as far as rancor hides go, using them in RIS would ge good because you can get more armor out of each hide, since it only takes 1 hide per piece, where as composite takes 4 or 5 for the important pieces.

however, the bad thing about rancor hides is that they will push heat and cold resists into the special category, so they can't be sliced above 80%. might not necessarily be a bad thing, because not many people use heat or cold dmg weapons. they also add to the ham costs though and take up the optional enhancement slot that is usually best used for a ns shard when crafting RIS.

i think your best bet, next to giving them to me (:smileytongue would be to use them to makesome nice 40% stun RIS armor. use 3 double amazing stun layers and you should be able to hit 80 kinetic, 80 heat, 80 cold, 40 stun, 80 base, or real close to it. might could use red cubes instead of yellow also, to offset the additional ham costs of the rancor hide.
