I have about six cores I looted from taking on Kimos, advanced battle, and if it's possible I would like to just hand them over to an AS to be made into something cool, but I don't know how the cores works. Is there anything else I will need for them to make it? What exactly are the parts of each piece of armor and what do they do? I have heard a lot about layers, cores and segments, but as a ranger who really never knew armor anyways I have no clue as to what any of this means.

W/ the looted cores, you need to provide nothing else to your local smith for him to make armor from them. About the only other useful thing you could provide would be peko peko feathers, but aside from that, the cores are the final step before finished armor. The layers and segments would have come before the cores, so in effect, they are already in there.

Also note, you need 11 cores, with runs of 3, 2, and 2 (but that shouldn't be a problem) and AS can usually turn out better corse than you loot...

Add 400 to the stats of the cores to get the final stats of the armor. Then you'll know if you want to bother with them.

Well, none of the cores are below 4k protection- most are in the mid 5k region, about the range of my clone armor, which I think is pretty good. And when you say it takes 11 cores- do you mean for one suit or one piece? I am sure I have 11 cores, but not 22, so if all this would make just one piece I would rather just go and get some custom made.

It's 11 cores to a full suit. If your cores are mid-5k, you'll have good armour ... the final combine adds 400 to the number, just to confuse the issue...
