In the new armor documents, it appears that by the time you get to the "skinning" phase of the crafting process, all of the armor's final stats will already be determined. What does this mean for Mandalorian Armor? Mandalorian is definately harder to aquire than standard crafted armors, yet from the way the new changes are described, it sounds like the only difference is going to be cosmetic. I'm not saying that Mandalorian Armor should be uber or anything, but it doesn't seem to make any sense that a player could put in the effort to fight into the depths of the DWB and get ahold of a Mandalorian skin, only to craft a piece of armor that is no better than if he had just used a regular old Composite skin instead? The same would also apply to RIS Armor and BH Armor, and any other armor that has to be quested or hunted for.

So far it looks that way yes.
However. What we havent seen is what stats are added or not by the 'skin'. Because if you look the 'skin' layer has two slots at least theorized about for enhancements like Janta hide etc. Ontop of ones for cosmetic changes. So it could well be the skin fleshest out the stats further. And in cases like BH armor, RIS and Mando. May well have more loot item enhancement slots available to it than other armor types.
Which is exactly how interwoven bone and RIS armor schematics work now, except those create the segments.

I hope you're right. I like that they are making all the different crafted armors usefull and viable, but it will be a dissapointment if hard to get quest armor becomes nothing more than a fashion statement.
