I have been a masterarmorsmith for about 4 months now, and i am having a problem with my suits of composite armor.. I am getting my base for the layers at 4% and my experimentation is between 80-85%.... on my enhanced segments i am getting a 30%base and my experimentation is well over 80%... the problem i am having is my base is still only coming out to 64%.... My suits are coming out 80%kin/76%electric/64%base.... What am i doing wrong? can anyone give me a hint on my what i am doing wrong.... any positive critisism would greatly be appreciated....

What are the stats of the resources you've been using along the way? As that would be the first place to look, since OQ and SR play such a major role in getting good results.
The other thing may be: Exactly how do you experiment at each stage after the layers have been made?

thanks for responding, well, i have been to almost every vendor on every planet and ive come across some colat iron and kiirium steel steel that have decent stats, but, it still appears yellow on my crafting window... my polysteel could be better than the stuff that i have.... unfortunately, i have had to buy alot fo the resources i have because they just havent been spawning for a while... i am also using average resources on my aluminum that goes into the armor..... but as far as my points into experimentation... i am maxing out my base, i am getting anywhere between 80-87% on my base experimentation and the final point i put into my special...i made a suit for myself the other night to try out my new resources and it was so heavy that i didnt want to sell it to anyone.. i dont want to make a product for someone that they wont be happy with.... this is one of toughest professions i have been through in the game... sometimes i feel like dropping it so i can do something else... its very discouraging to some degree... waiting for the perfect resource and then making the best armor that you can with the resources that you have...... once again, thank you for responding to my question.... very helpful... and where in the HELL did you get your attachments to get 12points... lol just curious...

Okay... With "yellow" resources your best bet is to aim for moderate base resist (about the 75% area on the scale) and put the remaining points into Durability. This will mean you don't have as high on the base as other smiths who've been around longer, but it will still be usable (and will still have fairly decent specials since anything other than quality will boost the specail resists on comp).
One method you could try, until you get the high-quality resources, is to push special and durability on your layers, then quality and durability on your segs and finaly combines. This will mean you don't get very good base resists, but you will still more than likely have a pretty good (if not 80%) special resist in there, and it won't be prohibitively heavy.
And just for curiosity's sake, which server are you on? And what are the exact stats of the resources you're using?
Oh, and I got the +20 in tapes with a LOT of help from my guild (cost us about 65mil all up iirc)
Cheers,

Your problem is just the quality of resources. Looking at what you said in your first post, you're hitting 80/76/64. In all honesty thats not bad if your resources are only middling level. Aside from the Colat Iron I'm using (997 oq) everything is in the low 900s on OQ and anywhere from 700-900ish on SR. I'm coming out with 80/80/68 (kinetic/elec/base). Seeing as how I'm not a 12 pt smith yet, its still fairly heavy armor. It sounds like you're experimenting right, and its just the resources. When I become a 12 pt smith, I'm going to try dropping the last two points in the effectiveness line, see if I can hit 80/80/72-76

thank you for the information.... i will try your suggestion... it will be lower in my base but at least the special and HAM will be fo decint stats... maybe i can make a suit that someone can wear without having to worry about being buffed all the time.... since most of the game consists of creatures that are basically Kinetic... congrats on getting your tapes as well. it really does help when you can make a set of 80/80/70 or higher with a low HAM.... those are the sets that sell for 300k.... i am on the Radiant server... i will look at the stats of my resources and put another post on here for you to look at...

to get like 70% base
you need to get 88-89% experiment on the layer.... segment and final production so clearly your resourse lack here

If you want basic hunting composite armor, base doesn't matter so much as HAM costs. From personal experience, I find that low ham saves me more than high resists when it comes to general PvE Vs Medium level and lower creatures, as your biggest enemy will be the specials u are spamming.
My advice, don't worry about base too much, try for 80% kinetic on the armor while dropping as much HAM as possible.

I've encoutnered the same type of thing. My layers are 24% EQ and ER and since you can only realistically cap at 4% base on a lair i don't expirament anymore than the 75% or so it takes to get the 4%, everything else goes into durability. My resources are very good except for my kiirium which is only 800 something oq and 505 SR with super low mal. Its the only yellow resource i use in the enite process. My segments come out to be 21% EQ and ER and i max out quality expiramentation to 80% which gives me like 32% base on the segment. The final combines give me like 80kin/76elec/65base . What i'm wondering is if you max the expiramentation on the layers if it will effect the outcome on the segs and final combines. Like if i went ahead and maxed all my layers instead of just going to 77%,would that make a difference in the segments? Do those percentages matter in latter stages even though you don't see the effects on the actual layers stats?

although this is ture...there are decimals in the %...for example if you get 4% and keep dumping points into it, you get better base results. for example i make 80/lkin/80elec and 70base PvE armor...i put all my exp points into base then the rest into HAM...then on the layer i put 1 into specials to get 11% elec and then most to base...88% then the rest again to HAM...final combine is all base then HAM...viola

yeah the decimals matter since they add up over all the combines i tried the 4% only at 75% but couldnt get anything higher than 66% base changed only 2 resources (in the final actual armor combine) and made sure the base was fully experimented 92% on kinetic and 94% on energy and i get nice 70% base on either easily.....34% base segment combine. But gonna try the new wooly, and energy layers, and see if i can get 71% base then thats where all my 5% janta hides are going to make some nice 76% base with slicability to kinetic.
