Thread: Shadowfire AS Union Just an Idea

Was kicking around the idea of some type of AS union for Shadowfire. Basically the smiths of Shadowfire get together to keep pricing of our organics and nonorganics down around resonable prices. I really want to try and get rid of the the bidding wars we go through. A group that can help up and coming smiths. We all know there is more than enough buisness to go around.

Don't really want to get into the pricing of armor but this can be discussed if desired.

For now, i'd just like to see who the armorsmiths (do not have to be a master) of Shadowfire are and who is interested in having a little more control over how much we pay for resources.

Throw me some ideas to help keep Shadowfire in uber armor.

It is a good idea Elood, but it is going to be hard to get prices controlled when there is always someone who will charge more because there is always someone who will pay whatever. I tried to get a steady flow of organics from scouts and rangers at one point by paying 3 cpu for each and every resource regardless of quality and quantity. Of course this way back before I realized organic prices were through the roof and no way would a ranger sell to me. But my thinking was that you offer the sale so no matter what they collect good or bad they are making a fixed rate that can be depended upon. So what they lose on their uber resources they make up for when the resources they have are bad. Obviously mark ups on armor and modest sales of low end resources will more than cover any loss to the AS and also keep armor reasonably and consistently priced. Of course 3 cpu is a joke to most rangers who pull in 100cpu or more for some resources, but maybe a higher fixed price.

Also, Ikoo used to run the Hunter's Chat on SF and organize large hunts for the specific type of meat he needed. As a bonus he provided buffs, some food, and paid a fixed rate for the meat, usually 20 cpu. This is a huge boon for him and to new fighters, because they are guaranteed a big group to hunt in and lots of cash as long as they just harvest. This gets costly for the host, but in the end will pay off if you have the capital to invest. A lot of guild hunts work like this but you open it to a much broader group.

One thing a Union could do is team with hunting guilds like ranger corps and the hunter's guild to fix prices between themselves like a contract. The guilds agree to your prices and in turn receive steady buys. If you group prominent guilds with prominent AS the freelancers will dry up as new AS realize they can get a better deal through the Union, and hunters....well they will probably always find ways to sell for high CPU, but the guilds should provide a steady flow of resources and will probably be attracted to hunting guilds.

If you make it easier for people I think it will work. For instance if I have 5k units of avian meat that I knoe is worth 125 cpu to some doc that is great, but then I have to go find a doc that will pay that and hope all his guild mates aren't out getting it for him too. It would suit me to just stick it on a vendor for 5 cpu and be happy with the low effort return I got.

Just thought I would add my two cents. I know someone who plays on Bria and a bunch of docs did this exact same thing. The objective is not to rip the hunters off. If the resource is worth 75cpu's, pay 75. The objectives to keep the fellow crafters from starting a bidding war, which drives pay out up, which drives prices up. I for one just made Armorsmith and can not afford to pay hugh sums of money for the resources. However,as a fellow hunter, I appreciate the source of income from the crafters. I use my credits to buy harvesters, armor, weapons, resources, food, etc... It is important to get the credits out to keep the economy going. I think it works on Bria and keeps thebidding under control. I would like to do the same thing with AS exp attachments and clothing, but they are special and deserve the cost. Contact Kilroy in game, I'll join.

As a new Master on shadowfire this sounds like a great idea. Although what i usually do is have Narass sit in theed paying what i feel like paying not always the inflated prices and tend to get smaller chunk(which are easier on me also) and it helps the younger group that dosent spend all day on the forums. Although the real reason i do this is that Naraski is 0-0-4-0 ranger and with this last spawn of wooly i can spend 1 hr on endor cap polearms xp for jedi and get about 30k of the hide. But it sucks since Narass is also Master Doc and the talus avian is making it hard on me to do both. But Id definately support a union, help us all get to know each other and learn some of the ins and outs of Armorsmithing

you guys are gonna find yourselves perpetually running out of hides, as harvesters will instead farm meat and such for docs and chefs who aren't price-fixing.

Competition is what defines a capital market, there's no need to create oligopolies.

That's a good point. A lot of people questioned why I was paying 75cpu for some recent Endor wooly hide with and OQ/SR average of 818. Well, it was because I needed to get the hunters off of the constant 150cpu avian hunts. It's not the greatest hide ever (probably just use it for Ubese), but it worked.
