Thread: Something to read

Just though you would like to read a report from the breakfast with the devs taken from apost i found on the jedi forums.

Hi All,

I went to the indy player breakfast this Saturday. Heck, I live in Indy, would feel stupid if I hadn't gone. I was left with a few impressions, some on Jedi, that I would like to share.

The dev team:

Julio, I think, is the producer of SWG for Lucasarts. As such, I really have no idea what he does. Not trying to be rude, but since I/we seem to be under the impression that the development takes place in Austin under Blair at SOE's place, /shrug. He struck me as trying to be helpful and understanding, and also excited about what is going on.

Pex. Now this is a guy who seems to get it. Very nice. Very 'with it'. He genuinely seems interested in helping the community.

Tiggs. This lady needs a vacation. She was constantly bustling around. Wasn't really under the gun for questions, so I can only go off the impression of her running round to make sure things were cool. Tiggs needs a break!

Greenmarine. This guy I have respect for. To look at him, I would not have guessed he was very old at all. The funny thing was that for his aparent age, he was the developer that seemed most interested in what WE thought. He seemed interested in making it better. He is currently hip deep in smuggler revamp. Our loss as he is not over in the CURB.

Rogue5. He was there actually on his vacation and he got drafted into the meeting. Was very much acting as a patriarch over the other DEVs.

Blixtev. While all others seemed to at least appear to understand what the group was saying, this man struck me as arrogant and defensive. He seemed to have the stance, on almost every single thing that anyone said that he was answering for of 'I am right and the discussion is over'. It was the biggest depression of the whole morning.

Things I can remember form the QA:

The crafter problem. Under the new system non double master templates are essentially hosed. That means, if you are to be effective, you must hav

e all your points in combat. So crafters can not effectively be a crafter AND go into combat anymore, at least not with out serious issues. The answer I was given was essentially 'So?' They even said that I was probably not very combat effective now. I had to correct them that under my current build, WS, M2Hand, and 4004 TKA, I could stand like a stonewall in front of a giant Krayt. No resoplution offered. I really don't think they have figured out what is going ot happen when a lion share of crafters leave crafting or the game do to this new enforced choice.

The 5 limit BH while at the same time having a magic 1.5 multiplier on Jedi. They said there was great internal discussion going on about this. Left open.

The new jedi grind problem. I quoted out what I recalled was Zina's math, that it would take over a year to grind Jedi after revamp. They seeme surprised by the number. If someone could link into this thread the quote, I would be greatful.

Respec. They quoted out the 1 to 1 conversion, which would seem to now have been changed later Saturday. Not sure what goes on there. Little disturbing if those in charge of revamp do not know something like this that is going in the same day.

BARC speeder. They do not quite seem to get that the only people who will get these are complete newbies or people buying another alt. Kind of frustrating there.

One funny part was a BH guy stood up, and started calling jedi cowards, pu$$ies and a few other expletive. Aparently the DEV's don't like it off the forum either and said that he needed to rethink his approach while talking to them. Kinda funny hearing a 'troll' getting called out live by the whole dev team. It was hard to hear through this gentelman's 'noise' but his main thing seemed to be Jedi in safehouses.

I will post more as I think about them. Maybe others who were there can comment too.

First new bit. GreenMarine was saying how they were not going to add in player bounties on smuggler as they did not want to force PVP. When reminded that Jedi were forced PVP, they said, well, that is the exception. I still think that needs relooking at. It creates an enviornment which is unhealthy for the game. the evidence is all over both forums.

I did make the comment that their communication was severley lacking. I told them while we have to try to believe that they really are trying, in a vacum of silence human nature is to believe the worst. I mentioned that if they are reading the posts, it does not take but a few seconds to type "We have read this or heard this". Rogue5 made the statement of 'We know', but ....I really don't think this is going to change. I hate being pesemistic, but it is what we can see.

I also asked as to the reason that Jedi are not allowed to test in mass like every other profession. Blistex's answer was that 'When I put the jedi on the internal server, all the DEV's did was run around and use them and not test anything else.' When I commented while that is all well and good, and I am sorry that he felt his own team did not have the discipline to test what was needed, our now 4 testers can not possibly test all the things get this done by the live date that is at most 12 short days away. I mentioned to him that this answer honestly was insufficent given the fact that we will be essentially be testing five professions, and there is little to no chance that we can get anything done by the 5th.

Remembered another thing! Blistex said that he deliberately does not read this forum. Saying you can't see anything in here. While I agree at times that this place can get cluttered, all I could think this whole time was if I told my clients I wasn't listening to them at all, I probably would be looking for a job later in the day. He seems like a guy who has no idea that his job should also include customer service. I think this is what lead me to my earlier conclusion. As far as not reading these boards, I will say that means we need to be feeding SonG all the more. If he feels his paying public's needs are not quite worth listening to, in any form, then maybe he see's the Corospondents diffrently. All evidence in the Armorsmith forum to the contrary.

Another thing, for out Politician friends. The Dev's are working on way to make it so the CSR's can pack a house up and put it into a players bank. This would only be in situations where the player has not logged in for a while and/or account is canceled. Not sure if this will ever make it inot the CSR's bag o trix. But we can hope.

Interestingbut shocking at the same time. It seems to underscore the lack of understanding that the devs have of their own game.

I stand by my original statement. It's not just Blix that seems clueless. They are gutting nearly all crafting professions. Merchant was the first one to get hosed and nobody seemed to care and, apparently, they won't be the last.
