I have an armoursmith on Chimaera who specialises in making padded armour (mainly for my own use). I logged onto TC5 to see how everything converted and found that my existing padded armour converted to very low stats. Even my Acklay hide armour became useless due to the low resists it had been given.

It seems that the convertion decides how good the armour is only in terms of resists and my very low encumberance armour which isextremely expensive to make and highly effective in PvEis considered low quality in terms of the conversion because it has lower resists than comp. This means that after the CU only those professions able to wear assault armour will have any decent armour to wear.

I also tested various loot items to see where I could use them in making armour. Krayt dragon scale, Nightsister shards, nightsister layers, acklay hide, peko peko albatros feathers, rancor padded segments and every other item I had were unuseable in all stages of manufacture.
