The subject pretty much says it all. While searching for GDKsI often come across Kimo lairs surrounded by Dune Kimogilas and Giant Kimogilas. Often times both are from the same lair. What I'm wondering is if you start attacking the lair and getting more Kimos to pop, is there a chance to get a GDK to come out? Has anyone tried this?

No. You may try searching the area a few hundred meters from the lair though, I've found GDK spawns that way before.

I have actually seen it, but only can remember it happening 3 times in a year of playing - and no scale either.

You are better off looking for random existing spawns.
