Thread: Armor Color in CU

The way the armor has be revamped in the CU has made it so that all 6 of the basica crafted armors are equally good. However, there is one problem. Even though there will always be the divide caused by certifications, we will still see players favoring composite over chitin, padded over bone, and ubese over tantel for one simple reason. They have cooler colors! This has never been an issue before because nobody wore the ugly armor like tantel, chitin and bone anyway, but it is an issue now. I personally think that Bone is ugly as hell but if I could wear bone armor that was solid black, I'd never take it off!... except maybe to wear my black and red chitin armor, or my cool blue and white tantel... you get the picture. Basucally what we need here is a cool color palette for all the armors, cause if you think about it a society that has developed energy weapons will definitely have a way to color bone armor.

A sub-issue is the armor refitting. It is a wonderful and necessary as well as intelligent idea, but one more thing needs to be adjusted. The armor is generic colored. Personally, I'd like to be able to convert my composite armor to a type that I can use, without having ugly colors. Many people are going to hesitate to refit their armor for fear of ugly colors. It would be cool if we had a system like what was implemented with composite, where we could change our armor color for a few weeks. It would be even better if there was a craftable item, like a "dye" for artisan or tailor or armorsmith or droid engineer or something that could be used to dye armor. That way people would have the option of dying thier armor, but they wouldn't be changing it every 5 seconds. I would recommend something like that for tailored clothing as well, but unfortunately if people could change the color of thier clothing, nobody would buy new clothing and tailors would go out of business. It might work, however to make the "dye" a tailor item, possibly more than one item (like "armor dye" and "fine cloth dye" for regular clothing vs. "rugged wear dye" for belts and boots and gloves). If the "dye" had reasonable resource requirements but could be sold for a decent profit, like say 10k per use, people would have to spend money on the tailors ro re-dye thier clothing, so the tailors wouldn't loose money.

This system would make life easier for tailors and armorsmiths, because tailors would make more money and both professions wouldn't have to stock as many different colors of armor/clothing. Needless to say, it would also make life easier for consumers, because they could pick out the exact type of clothing and armor they liked the best, with the stats and style they liked, and still be able to have the color they wanted. Also, if a person had a "favorite" article of armor or clothing, or an expensive item with skill attatchments, they wouldn't have to suffer with a color that didn't match the rest of thier outfit. I've seen too many players turn down an auction for skill clothing because they "didn't like the color".

This is my long-winded suggestion, and anyone else who has additional comments or ideas please post them. Please remember that this is a thread for discussing armor coloring, so stay on topic.

I think everyone agrees on the color customization. The armorsmith community has more pressing problems than color at the moment, though, so look for this to be waaaay at the bottom of the list.
