only if you will be making shields. there are components of shields that are MA items (2), so if you want to be self sufficient, you'll want to master it. otherwise, artisan is used for bone armor, as well as nice for surveying for your own resources. dont forget merchant, as it's the best way to sell your wares .

So in short, you'll really only need master if you're planning on doing shields yourself, and even then you can usually find a good supplier of components. Also, bone armor is under artisan experimentation, so if you plan on making a lot of that (dont know anyone who does..) then you'd want to get master.

hmmmm...well as of now im a Master Pistoleer and 0440 Smuggler, but if i wanted MAS i do not have enough skill pts nor the extra cash to afford an Alt crafting character. what should i do?

just leave out master artisan, and keep what you have. you can get by just fine with 4/0/0/0 artisan, especially until they mandate merchant skills for vendors. as it is now, you can geta little into merchant while you're grinding armorsmith, place a vendor or two, and surrender all of your merchant while still keeping your vendors. This is eventually going to be fixed, but for now would provide an option for you. You can always find a master artisan who will make schematics for your shield components.
