After making macros to craft so many different things I think I have finaly figured it out, use your data pad and count schematics till you reach the one you want, simple we've all tried that, but here's the key, only count the schematics the crafting tool is able to craft. For example count an armor seg but not a dispersal mechacnism(spelling?) if your using a armor and clothing crafting tool.
