Just want to point out the market out there for low-end armors.
I am starting on armorsmith in the Kauri server and the lowest end armors I see in vendors are basic Ubese armors. That sucks if you are looking for cheap armor for PvE.
With the new 'revamp' coming and capping resists I think we are going to start seeing the rise of these low-end armors because of their low-ham that you don't need a buff to wear the full suit.
I've started a list of resources I need and have started to collect for the following armors:
Bone
Mabari
Mabari
Chitin
Ubese
Padded
I will be selling advanced variants of all of these. I will also be making segment enhanced variants of these.
One last thing. Once I have basic PvE sets available, I will be approaching guilds and (attempt) to sell them sets of select armors for use by their newer members and selling them at very competive rates.
Please, any comments?

Chitin rocks.
Padded blows.
The others are kind of in-between.
Bone can be suprisingly good with an interwoven schematic!

I know padded blows, will be making it asmore of a fasion item rather than anything else.
I'm going to be focusing on Chitin, at least at first. Also, there aren't many ppl selling PSG's, I guess they are too much of a bother to make.

I actually sell alot of padded now for some reason I have sold 5 suits of padded this week. People like the looks of this armor and the stats I guess are o'k as they approach 55% general resist.

Lok leathery is one of maybe 10 creature resources I don't mind. Kimos drop tons of the stuff and are relatively easy kills.

Hia,
Thanks for the tip on Composite armor.
I might start production on light, unlayered sets, but I'm mainly going to leave composite for the 'big boys' to play around with. I really don't need the money at the moment because all my income comes from doing solo missions at 30k a pop on dantooine...and now I can do those in about 5mins each.
I really do hate having to go to a doctor every time I want to put my armor on, especailly to really accomplish anything in this game.

There are several reasons almost everyone wears composite armor, these are in no particular order.
1. Comp has the least vulberabilites, making it the only armor useful in pvp where a large number of damage types are present.
2. Comp the easiest to make resource wise. All but wooly hide can be harvested easily, and the wooly requirement isn't that high.
3. With comps 3 layer slots its the easist to get very high resists on.
4. Comps biggest penelty, encumbrence, can be offset with some good slices, or more easily with buffs(not gonna go into buffing good/bad here).
5. Most of the other armors require much larger hide requirements, making them more expensive for the smith to make and often resulting in inferior quality as the good spawns of some of the hides are hard to get(Lok leathery is a severe pain in the rear). A smith has a much higher cost to make a peice of padded than for the same peice of composite armor. The padded segments need wooly in them, its more porfitable for a smith to use that wooly in composite.
6. Ubese is the second easiest to make next to comp, but while high kinetic is good for pve, it can't stand up to pvp.
7. Padded HAM can at times be worse than that of comp. Padded is by no means light, it is in fact rather heavy.
8. Bone armor is artisan, is armor but dosen't use armorsmith experimentation. Has enery as special protection but is hard to get high and has many vulnerabilites.
9. Chitin is worse ubese. Both have special protection of kinetic, but chitin is harder to make have high resists, is usually heavier, and needs more organics that ubese.
I commend you for trying to make other armor types but there are a few things to keep in mind. The combat revamp isn't gonna be for a long long time, its been pushed back before and I would be surprised if it didn't get pushed back again. We don't know much about what will actually happen to armor when it finally appears, all I can think of at the moment is a comment that "high end armors will still be at the high end," nothing is certain. Its much tougher making the low end stuff, you will have to work harder to make them, the costs will be higher and the profits will be less.
This isn't ment to be negative(althougt it mostly is), more power too you if you can actually pull it off, but just trying to give you some info on where we are at and why we are here.
Good luck and may the force be with you.
Forgot about PSG's, I make em but they don't seem to sell very fast. They are nice, but they wear out fast and there still is the problem with the system forgetting about them neccesatating an unequip/reequip every time you go into battle, which is a pain.

I make them all. I have been slipping on stocking Tantel, Chitin, Mabari, and bone, but I have offered them and will offer them again.
I sell a lot of Padded. I put composite on the vendor and ignore it but interact with my custom order Padded customers. I also sell some Padded on the vendor and have a hard time keeping it in stock (runs of 15-20 suits with 1/3 the number of helms which I sell seperate from the suit). I know I am one of the few AS on Kett who makes it and I might be the only one who makes it with resists as high as I get. I have been averaging 10 suits of custom built Padded a week (in addition to the Padded on the vendor) for quite a few weeks. A Tantel helm, while not as protective, looks real good with Padded. My suit is mint and lilac with a lilac Tantel helm and it's what I wear for 90% of my adventures away from the crafting station. I get comments on it all the time *smirk*.
Hearing that the Kash Hunting uses Lok Leathery real tore me up. I need that hide for my Padded!
There is definately a market for armors other than Composite since there actually are people who like to look good as well as be over-kill protected. yes, Composite (and now Kash Hunting, too) is probably the best for PvP, but not everyone PvPs.
