Hi everybody,
I already mastered the AS profession many weeks ago.
I am getting sick when crafting my armor. I didnt sell one single suite till now.
The reason: I am too bad in crafting I fear.
I am only a 10pt AS, I didnt get any CAs or something like that. I cant even afford em
I looted much of Janta Hide, Rancor Hide, Nightsister Armor Shards and stuff.
Yesterday I had my last try to make a good composite suite.
I started with the chest plate.
I mostly used really good resources (three of four needed stats over 950)
I will write down the stats of the segments I crafted, so maybe you can tell me if they are good or not.
Kinetic Protection Layer:
Kinetic: 10%
Base: 4%
Advanced Composite Armor Segment:
Kinetic: 31%
Base: 24%
(there where a few stats more because I used Enhancements from Rancors. There was Heat, Cold and Electricity as well)
The Composite Chestplate was craftet to only 75% Kinetic and only (!!!) 49% Base.
I also used drinks and food to increase the effectiveness in experimentation and assembly (+12).
I use a 43.93 Crafting Station and a 14.97 Tool.
Is it really very important to use enhancements? Such as i.e. Janta or Rancor Hide or is it enough just to craft Advanced Compo Segments with only 3x Kinetic Layers?
How do I get that 80% thing running without having any attachements on?
Is there a special balance for the right resources? I always watch the last 4 stats on them to see if they are good (UT, MA, OQ, SR).
Where can I buy the best food for assembly/experimentation? Does anyone have a good Shop WP?
The only thing I want is to start selling my stuff and no longer destroy it and fall into deep depressions =)
Anyone got a few tips for me?
Thanks in advance for all hints and tricks

Sounds to me like you are using only one kinetic layer.
Use 3 kinetic layers. 4% Kinetic / 4% Base. That should get your base and kinetic a lot higher.
Also, what are the stats on your resources? OQ and SR are the most important stats.

Ahaha! i have a 15.00 crafting tool and i'm only 4/1/0/4 Take that! anyways, though i cant make comp yet, i agree with what ryche is saying.

With 31% kinetic in his segment, and 10% kinetic in his layers I'd say he's using three layers. I think his resources are just sub-par.

resources are the key to being a good smith period. Right now when hams aren't a major concern most 10 points smiths can make armor with the same or similar resists as 12 point smiths. (this breaks down on armors like the 4 x 80 suits and such)

It also depends on whether he dumps at least one point into Durability after getting the base up. Don't waste any point on Experimental Effectiveness (Specials) on the segments or the final construct. Put your points into Quality (Base Effect) then any remaining into Durability.
For Adv Comp Segs on Kettemoor, we have subpar Kiirium (OQ+SR = 1200), but good Colat and Polysteel (OQ+SR on both in the 1700 range). For the final you should shoot for Know Solid Petro at OQ>=900 (prefer in the 950+ range), Intrusive Ore with OQ+SR 1700+, Beryllius Copper OQ+SR 1400+, Naboo Fiberplast OQ+SR 1600+, Wooly Hide OQ+SR 1300+ and Aluminum OQ+SR 1600+.
On your Kinetic layers, look for Amorphous with OQ+SR 1600+ , polymer - same, metal Same or better.
It took a few months to get the resources lined up. While I was still collecting I cranked out Powerups, Crafting Tools, Repair Tools. When I had resources close to this but no good layer resources, I made unlayered comp with 50-54% base. If you can make unlayered with 50% base, you should have no problem hitting 80% Kinetic if your Kin Layer resources are decent to very good.
On your layer experimentation, if you are going for both high base and the 80% Kinetic (your HAM costs will be high), then 4% Kinetic per layer should be fine. They should be 4% at combine with resources as listed above. So, if you don't have to put points into the Exp Effect (Special) , then put them into Qual (Base) until maxed, then into Durability.
I hope this helps. I am happy to clarify anything I didn't make clear.

I think if he did indeed use 3 Kinetic Layers though, the base would be a LOT higher than 24% on his segments. My base unlayered is 19%, so I think he is putting in 1 layer and is having fractions come into play.

I dont give any points to Kin in the layer, they all go to base, then encumb...and i get 80kin easy...my guess is its the resourses...

With 24% base / 31% kinetic segs, with mediocreresources he should still be seeing base in the mid to high 50's. My guess is he's experimenting on the special protection on the segments and layers in hopes of getting the kinetic up.
Solution. Don't experiment on the special protection of the segment and armor piece it self. Dump all you can into effectiveness and you should get much better results.

Hi Guys,
thx all of you very much. You helped me a lot.
The resource counting is genious. I had all these resources to get 1600 and 1300 and so on and I didnt even know =)
And YES, I used 3 Kinetic Layers.
The problem really were the resources. Some were really good with stats high over 900 and some were just crap.
I now used all resources like explained and it seem to work. Got 80% Kinetic and 55% Base. But I will work on the Base stats. I think I can get it higher.
Maybe it would be good to find a way to craft myself a Tool with 15.00.
Then having some food and drinks and then make good compo. Good plan, isnt it? =)
Thx very much guys.
If I can do something for you, just tell Szandor ingame =)
Bye

depending on what kind of layering you doing, you can max out base with 10pts, so that means a 12pt wouldnt do better on base, the main thing is resources, and how your making your layers, like your layers there have too much to kinetic, in fact if your resources are good enough you dont need to add any to special on the layer, just max out base, put rest into durability

Segment statistics include any special protections from layers seperately (i.e. my triple layered kinetic segments are 34% base, 14% kinetic, not 34% base, 48% kinetic). Unless he can produce a single 31% kinetic layer, he's using three layers.
It's still my contention that his segment and final combine resources aren't up to snuff for the kind of resistances he's looking for. Considering that he's adding rancor hide in there, which will actually raise the base, I'd say he has some serious deficiencies in the OQ and SR of his advanced segment resources.

I can't believe he's getting just 24% base out of an advanced composite segment, with 4% layers that's only 12% out of the segment which is abyssmal.
