Thread: Protection vs Encumbrance

I am a Novice Swordsman on Eclipse with a nice set of composite armor. I currently have a problem getting it on all do to all the encumbrance. In fact, all I seem to be able to put on for now that I feel comfortable with is the left and right biceps, the chest plate, and the pants. I am a bit aggravated because even though I have changed the pants of the pants to a bold red, they only show red around and slightly below the waist (I apparently can see my green Trandoshan hide right around the hamstring ahead and upper thigh area) and the knee guards. I am getting to where I will regularly fight beasts with a 5k HAM rating and I would like to know whether or not Ubese, Padded, or any other armor will suit me better and still allow powerful protection, and what I can buy or put on that will allow me to see red all the way down my upper legs. Thanks for the help!

When it comes to Armor it's all about what your gonna fight. For PvE(non NPC) such as pickets, quenkers, ER's, etc. it's all kinetic(unless they are ranged, then I'm not quite sure what that is, but assume it's under acid(ie. Savage Quenkers))

Composite is coming out as a common 80% kinetic, while Ubese is in the mid to upper 70's for Kinetic resistance. Composite is an armor unless your human and have your secondary stats set just right, is almost impossible to put on without food/drink, spice and/or buffs from a doc.

Composite= higher Condition armor, takes more of a beating, so doesn't need repair as often. With acid resists, it's also good against spitters(range mobs).. and if you do NPC/player killing, it's what you want on the high end. But, once on, you really don't want to take it off, for then you need to get rebuffed or eat, etc. And as a fellow Dosh, It's the buff we are gonna need. Also, I've found you recieve less Battle Fatigue wearing composite then Ubese.

Ubese= Lower Condition so needs to be repaired more frequently, not much on the other resists unless the maker sacrifices some encumberance or special resists(kinetic), so not that great for NPC/Player killing. IT's easier on the encumberance and there for with good settings, you can actually be able to put on and off without food/drink, spice, or buffs(i've done it many times with ubese as a Dosh).

Padded is good blast protection.. can also get some decent kinetic in there if crafted well and be an alternative to ubese. The encumberance is lower then Ubese armor, and for fighting NPC's I'd recommend a good set of Padded over ubese. It's got a wider range of protections, but not so good against many players.. At the moment, Composite is way to go for PVP.. just don't get out of it.

In my opinion (and I'm sure someones gonna disagree) It's what you are gonna fight. I say Wear Ubese for grinding a proff, once mastered, and have the weapons your gonna wanna use, etc. Then switch out to Composite.. Your not gonna be fighting as many PvE mobs in a day after master then you do tryin to grind up that ladder. This will give you the longer condition, better protection, and able to go PvP if you so desire.

OK...wierd, but apparently sincere.

All composite leggings are black/dark with small areas of color-able armor around the waste.

High Kinetic resist Ubese is probably your best bet for PvE with low encumbrance. You should have no trouble wearing a full set. Kinetic resists range from 70-80% depending on the smith and server/resource availability. The color is set by the armorsmith on Ubese. I don't believe red is a choice...pink is cute, though.

Unless you give up some points of resist, Padded is much heavier than Ubese.....more expensive too. If you can find a smith that's making it.

Some smiths make "light" kinetic comp. Usually around 500 in each HAM stat. Couple encumbrance slices should bring it down to be easily worn with out buffs, or heavy stat migration.

I vote Ubese as the best for PvE(non-NPC). It can be made pretty light and still retain decent kinetic protection. Usually costs quite a bit less than comp. Make sure to get an extra jacket or 2 though. They can go quickly.

I like low enc armor, always have done...

A couple of days ago me and a couple of people were taking on high end Tusken's (200k HAM Observers etc) and others in the group were having problems keeping the blue bar up, while mine kept solid at 100%, after speaking to them found it was the armor they were using was causing the problems. They had standard effect sliced, but like 900 HAM armor while I was using light comparmor, then enc sliced (so the enc is around the 300 mark). When we factored in that we were both humans with high mind, and brandy, the results were something like this....

Me

1100 secondary stats on mind + 800 = 1900

- 300 for armor = 1600 effective

Him

1100 secondary stats on mind + 800 = 1900

-900 for armor = 1000 effective

I had a 60% advantage........

I will be doing a lot of solo missions against Mokk's and Janta's. I also plan on fighting rancors and huurtons in the near future. I am currently based in Dantooine, but that may change once I get to where I can fight something bigger than 5k without it tearing my head off. What kind of armor is bestsuited for Dantooine? Btw, I think I have a total of around 800 Mind, so that will obviously place a limit on what I can wear. I don't want to have to go get a buff to put on my armor. That is ridiculous and it can get very expensive.

If you want my suggestion - re-roll your character before you regret it later on.... As it stands Trandoshans are the only race in the game that can not ware a full suit of armor (even the wooks are sorted now)..........

You will always have armor holes that make taking on high level mobs hard (hands and feet).

Armor encumbrance goes against secondaries, so in the case of Mind HAM it goes against Willpower and Focus (normally around 1/2 to 2/3's of your HAM total).

As I tell most of my customers, armor choice is entirely dependant on your choice of opponents and fighting style (Buffed/unbuffed etc). It sounds like you are going toe to toe with mostly kinetic critters and if you like to be able to go unbuffed, Ubese would be my recomendation. You can get Ubese in the 70-75% kinetic range with unsliced Enc. in the 350-450 range. A nice enc slice and you're really set
