1) What is Armor Special Protection?
It was explained to me, a long long time ago in a galaxy far, far away that SP was one level higher AR then Effectiveness. However, some are now suggesting to me that that isn't true. That Special Protection is just a different rating then Effectiveness. Which leaves some logic missing.
2) Is this to say that it is IMPOSSIBLE for a player to get anything that is AP2? True or False.
3) So basically Special Protection is a worthless stat on say Composite Armor. If SP isn't AR2 then standard Comp. with say 80% Effectiveness is logically better for Melee combat then Comp. with 80% Kin Special Protection as to have the SP will increase the Encumbrence. So all that Comp out there with 80% Kin SP is garbage as a suit of 80% Effectiveness armor will be less Encumberence and thus superior to that SP Kin armor.
3) Could the Dev's please chime in here and say one way or the other if SP is AR1 or AR2?
Thanks!

SP is AR1.
Here is the deal with SP. It is handled different by the system internally for several calculations. For BE pets SP is given more weight in the DNA template and therefore can be carried over to the clone better. It is that property of SP that allows all the other resists to go to vuln except the kinetic that is trapped up in the SP. This is how the great low CL animal tanks are made.
For armor SP can be increased greatly by adding in layers for that protection type. The down side is that it can not be sliced up any higher than what ismade as. It is a trade off. Do you start out at 65-70% in hopes of getting a good slice or to you go straight to 80% and take away the guess work/risk of not getting a faverable slice. The 80% kin on comp is mostly an ecomonic choice.
However if you do get that 80% comp, then you are wanting an encomberence slice. A suit that is well sliced with with the 80/80/80 protections can give you the best of both worlds. It isn't as good as say a suit that is average HAM and 90% effectiveness course, but how many suits do you buy to get that rating?

Thought this myth had been cleared up long ago...
Sp is not an issue of higher protection, but armor design...
It is the damage type that armor protects against the best, and is easier to raise compared to the 'base' protection.
It has been clearly stated by the Dev's long ago, long enough I'm not going to bother to dig up a post.... no personal armor is more than AR1. AR2 and 3 are reserved for higher level creatures, buildings, vehicles (if we ever get any for combat) and such.
