A friend told me that idea in game and I love it:

why not make armor wearing a certification routine like weapons? Everybody could wear them but efficiency would only be like 10% of current if you don't have the certification for that armor.

Not all professions master should be able to wear a heavy composite for example (a padded at master level why not). A rifleman should only have a light suit of armor and a novice marskman only be able to wear a bone armor.

It would make all kind of armors wanted along the progression in the professions.

It should also be related to equipped weapon. A master rifleman shouldn't be able to fire with a composite on.

PS: rifleman is just an example. repartitions of certifications should be discussed.

I do think it would healp a lot to vary people styles, and bring market open to novice artisans and novice AS for example as all kind of armors would be needed and a single man would have a very hard time to produces all the different kind of armors.

Just a few points.

A) Firing agun is not impaired by any armour, with the exception of finger armour or a steel plate in front of your eyes which wouldnt be very good armour.

B) Novice artisans armour will be inferior to masters therefore they will gain no benefit from a change based on this principle.

C) Oh yeah the big one, due to the nature of damage types & the armours attributes in game & the variability of damage done from NPCs, the other armours are absolutely useless compared to Ubese & Composite & Ubese only applies to hunting creatures.

But apart from that....

Why dont you consider the approiateness of Stormtrooper armour being inferior to almost all other armours (Ive seen some very nice bone ). Given that armies tend to be the developers of leading edge materials & given that the Empire is the lead developer, how can composite exceed Stormtrooper armour & be on the civilian market ?

Explanation for only Jedi PCs using them is .....?

a) We're not talking about a 100% realist stuff. Just saying a novice Pistoleer for example may not have the skill to move easily while using its pistoleer strength.

b) sure they will but it opens the market because a master AS will have a hard time to produce all the different kinds of armors. more AS will be needed to fill the market.

c) we're talking about the revamp not the actual live game state
