I have been reading the forums, learning about armorsmithing.
I have completed master armorsmith (1 week as a MAS).
I have made some 33% Stun 52% Kinetic, Base Composite armor. I have made some 80% Kinetic 52% Base Composite armor.
Heck, I have even sold some of it !!
As I read things today, download the AS Helper, looked at another spreadsheet helper, investigated layers ... I developed a question:
Can I mix the different armor layers into an armor segment (example have an adv comp segment with 2 stun and 1 kinetic layer)?
Is this how I see smiths with 4 80sin their armor stats? because they are using 1 stun, 1 kinetic, 1 electric layer in each adv comp armor segment?
Finally ... have I been wasting resources by making all my armor segements out of the same layer (example, stuns - all 3 layers) and then all segements in the armor are identical (harboring 3 stun layers each).?
thanks for the help,

Yes, you can mix and match layers as you see fit.
And also, as a general rule, when using 3 of the same type of layer it's better to use 3 seperate layer schematics so that you get the most out of your segment schematic (ie. 999 segs with seperate layers, only 333 if the same layer schem is used)

I see the point with three seperate layers
I guess the real question is, since I can use different layers, how do I know when I am at overkill? I don't want to use three layers of kinetic if I can use 2 layers and still get the same resist %.
Is there a way to tell? OR is there no way to have a max resist % with only 2 layers?
sorry about the questions, but I have very limited resources (master doc and master armorsmith), less than 500K and do not believe I can afford to do more than a few experiments (every experiement I try is a piece of armor I did not sell ...).

Just a suggestion, but as a master non-12pt smith, I would suggest staying away from heavy stun armor for the time being. You will likely sell much more armor at 80% elec/70%base than you will at your current stun stats. With the 80% elec, 70% base chances of getting above 80% on the slice(giving all other stats 80+ resists) is pretty good. Just a thought but on my fighter I stay away from stun armor unless I'm looking at using it in the geo cave or in PvP, and at that point i pick up armor with very good stats.
What it boils down to is that stun armor is focusing in an area of sales where you will not be able to compete well, given your current stats(you will still sell some). But if you focus on the non-stun(non PvP) armor sales your client base will increase and your stats will be more effective(higher base, lower encumb). You can also do the kinetic layers as well so long as your hitting 80% on your kinetic armor.

According to the guide(and this will also depend on your resources) as long as you get the segment up to 11% on the special resist you will hit 80%(other than stun). So if you can get your special resists up to 11% on your segments in 2 layers then you should be able to reach your max % with only 2 layers which will reduce hams a little. However I would suggest instead trying to drop your special on each layer(while still maintaining 80%) and increasing your base(unless your already maxed at 4% on each layer). You'll find a much higher demand for your armor if you can increase that base a bit, versus a minor reduction in ham costs(removing one layer would also reduce your base resistance).

LOL .. would you believe that the one paragraph you typed here actually was more informative than several hours worth of research and reading the armorsmith FAQ several times.
Segments up to 11% and base maxed at 4%...... the items I was looking for.
Thanks for the help. Tonight, I will do some practicing just to see where I am sitting with two layers and if I can get my base up to 4%. I am going to assume that my crappy resources are going to hinder me some but it is worthy testing.
I have 10 suits of PvP 31% stun armor on my vendor, I won't make anymore unless I sell it. I plan on concentrating on Comp and Ubese Kinetics with as high as possible base resists.
thanks for the help (and anyone else feel free to comment too).
