Hello All,

long time reader, first time poster..... Anyway.. I have been playing this game since september of last year and until recently, I had not mastered any profession because I dabbled in all of the starting professions and couldn't really find a fit. Now I finally have settled into the game, and have started on the road to Armorsmith. I don't really want to macro grind, but I want to be able to help my guild mates out so I have to get through this pretty quick. The only problem is that my guild is primarily combat based professions and no one can really help me out with how the heck all of this stuff happens. I have read all of the guides I think, plus I have been reading the forums for a bit. But how can this be fun? Everyone in here seems to be really irritated with the AS Profession. How do any of you just focus on Crafting and not explore the rest of the SWG universe, or do you and how?

I hope this post makes sense

I like the challenge of AS, the way different things I do and add to armor affects it. To me, it is fun.

However... I reserve the right to get mad at SOE for frellin' up that fun.

I explore (master rifleman) as well as being master AS. Looks like the only way I'll ever get an armor experimentation tape is to loot one (+3 went for 10mill+ the other day). I've looted some decent NS armor shards/layers and to be able to make a suit of armor for myself and guildmates for specific needs (i.e. DWB/Corvette/Hunting) is pretty useful. I'm not a prolific salesman though and my primary source of income is still Janta's.

I don't understand how people can solely be crafters unless they have a non-crafting alt. So much content is combat focused that you'll miss out on a lot without a master combat prof. Seeing a few % points of extra resist ain't that exciting after waiting for months for the resources to come along. Using it on the other hand...

For me, the combat side of things was never very appealing here. In fact, my biggest concern is that all the combat types will wake up and say, "Well, heck, this is all really kind of boring" and quit, leaving me without customers.

Besides, who has time for combat anyway?

*Disclaimer*
My attitude may change with the release of JTL.

I'm a master AS since 7 months and I love it. It's very challenging and you have to spend alot of time to get the right resources, make experimentation attempts and so on.

My free SP I use to shift between combat professions. Atm I'm master AS. 4004 in artisan, 4040 in scout and master pikeman.

I don't think I could ever go 100% crafter, mainly cuz I would then miss out on all the guild hunts, I wouldn't be able to hunt some of all the organic resources I need.

Unfortuantly it seems that with the upcomming merchant patch, soe will have to make us choose though.

Forums are 214% Whining, doesn't just apply to the SWG forums. Go to any official MMORPG forum and the tone is very different from the ingame experience.

I've always said that the easiest way to lose the taste for a game is to read the forums.. the dark side of the forums can influence the strongest of minds.

I've been a low level AS for some time now and I really had some good fun with it, but I don't have my own vendor (and now I never will have it), so I just sell my (as I said, low level) armor on the bazaar. it's great though to see some newbie asking for help and being able to give him a decent armor that he otherwise wouldn't be able to afford and that will help him through the drag of the first xp hunts.

overall I like crafting a lot, but I don't see me doing that for a lot longer. will be dropping the AS soon, since I already picked up some WS skills (probably make it to master either) and stopped crafting any artisan stuff, as it's just not worth going through the hassle without dropping my combat skills to get some vendors and I really have no intention of creating an alt char

from the limited experience I've had with AS and WS, I can say that AS was a lot more fun to me, but it feels even more useless at the first few skill levels

Yes, Armorsmithing can be a blast! I created my Wookie on December 7, 2003 and started on brawler. Then, when we got the Christmas gift Holocrons, I went down the path of Ranger. During that time I realized how much Armorsmiths paid for hides and I began began hunting for hire. I also began working on Swordsman. I eventually worked back to Master Scout, Master TK, Master Swordsman. After doing some fighting will groups, I learned that TK/Swords is an amazing combo, if your not a Wookie! So...then my next Holocron was Chef...I thought wow, not gonna happen, no crafting for me.

Anyway, to cut to the point ) After getting chewed on as a Wookie and blowing tons of money on Scythes and Power Hammers as a Swordsman, I wasn't having a whole lot of fun. Then I went on the Vette...that lasted about 2 seconds ) I decided that I would spend some time away from the game for awhile, I began roaming the boards and trying to decide on something else to do and I decided it might be a fun challenge to try Armorsmith. My best friend in RL is a Weaponsmith and so I had a general idea of the harvesting and experimentation and everything so that was a huge hand up for me in the beginning. I spent my first few days back in the game grinding Armorsmith as fast as I could to see what kind of gear I could pop out. Armorsmith provided me with all of the challenges and strategy that I had always wanted from SWG. The idea of gathering the top resources, dealing for the best enhancements and still working to break into a very mature market was very exciting for me. Thus far, I have been able to pop out 80% Kinetic 80% Electricity 68% Base suits and sell them at a decent rate. I am always working on ways to be more creative, more efficient and try to match the bests of the Armorsmiths on my home server as well as the best on other servers.

Is Armorsmith a challenge? Yes. Is Armorsmith expensive to break into? Yes. Is it tough to create a customer base that is loyal to you? Yes. Can it be done? Heck yeah! My current template is Master Armorsmith, Merchant 3044, Marksman 0002, Master Rifleman. I decided on Rifleman to fight from a distance and deal damage hunting the animals that have the looted components that my friends and I need for crafting (also chose Rifleman before the new Wookie Armors came out). People on the Armorsmith boards are helpful and the FAQ and guides are great.

In short, yeah, it is fun )

Try chatting with other AS on your server. It's been my experience that there are many willing to take the time to help and answer questions. Just realize that they may be busy and try to catch them at a good time. Mail is always good.
