Thread: Black Mountain Armor...is it for the Un-buffed?

Trying to make Black Mountain armor a usable armor for the unbuffed...
Using the school of thought that you need to be buffed when you go hunting, it is cheaper to use Black Mountain Armor for PVE than using Hunting Armor (pushing BM kinetic up to 80). So far, I've made suits that have two kinetic layers maxed for special protection - which makes 80% Kinetic / 20% base suits with an encumberance less than, but fairly close to Hunting Armor.
It *is* usable in the sense that if you have full buffs, you can wear it for PVE and is much cheaper to make/purchase than Hunting Armor - however, encumberance-wise, it's not a whole lot different.
Encumberance is the key here...
I was challenged to make Black Mountain Armor a usable armor for the unbuffed wookie. Right now, cerimonial armor seems to be the winner for that category. I made a Chest with 56% Kinetic, 19% base with insanely low encumberance (119ish, 81ish, 90ish) - but that was pre-patch - not sure how heavy it is now.

I want to try a 2x layered chest with both the layers and segments maxed for condition, then special, to see what that would yield.
I also need to make a new set of cerimonial to see what encumberance is on that now (what is yours?) for a fair comparison.

If you have suggestions that you think might help out in my challenge, I would love to hear it. Also, I'd be interested to get some feedback on how you make your Black Mountain armor.

I've hardly had time to make much wookie armor yet so can't help, but I like seeing experiments like this. I agree though, it looks like ceremonial armor would win, even without adding cheap voritor scales.

Ehh well going by the armors that have been there for a long time.. aka composite 3 layer,, padded 2 layer.. and the comp comes out higher protection and lighter,, i dont have much hope.. +75 kin padded is heavier than +75 kin comp.. and doesnt have 2 vulnerabitly..
Though logic would say that this would be the case.. but since when is logic and SOE used in the same sentence??

Yeah, played with this a little more to no avail. Too bad, I'm thinking of offering cerimonial again though...

I made a set last night. I have all my secondary maxes and I was able to wear it unbuffed.

My current run of Black Mountain is as follows:
Kinetic Resist 80%, Base 17-18%. Vulnerable to Stun, Heat, Acid and Lightsaber.
Total HAM: 389 / 435 / 480 (Post-Nerf)
All pieces 25700 condition or higher.
Chest: 227 155 334
Legs: 73 176 49
L Bracer: 44 51 48
R Bracer: 45 53 49
Legs: 73 176 49

I've been asking my armoursmiths about what it would take to make a great set of non-buff PvE armour but no one seems to make any with that in mind so HAMs are mostly ignored.
My set of BM is actually more costly in HAM than my Hunting but that might be due to poor materials and/or slicing chance.
What would it take to make a set of Ceremonial (it's the only armour I like the appearance of, especially considering wookiees dont' wear clothing) that's geared toward PvE for unbuffed? Primary damage types are Kinetic and Energy (I do alot of Faction missions thus NPC blaster fire).
I'd be willing to spend alot of time getting just the right resources to help build a set like this and an Armour smith would make an eternal friend.

The problem with ceremonial is that it does not have any layers, so is not very versatile. It can be done great, but it requires great loot drops, and even then it breaks so fast. I've seen a ceremonial chestplate with 80% Kinetic 40% Energy that used a legendary krayt scale. Mass production is not possible above say 58% Kinetic and low energy.

I think I'm going to experiment with cerimonial tonight. If results are favorable, I'll do a run of them this week and make them available to the Radiant wooks. I have a few more experiments to conduct on the Black mountain armor as well - I'll post here if I find anything interesting.
