I'm just about to be at a level where I can sell my armor. I am kind of clueless about the whole experimenting thing though. Does anyone know of a guide for this? Or, any help would be appriciated.

Section II: Part D. of Jaato's guide briefly touches on what each line of experimentation will do (doesn't apply to composite exactly, but that's a different tale altogether
). As a general rule, you want to get the Kinetic and/or Energy resists of basic armour as high as you can get them - as these are the two most common damage types encountered in general PvE. What this means is that you'll want to experiment either the Quality line or the Resistance line, depending on what the inherent special resist of the armour type you're working on is. For example: Ubese has Kinetic as its special resist, so it's generally accepted that you'll be pushing the Resistance line as hard as you can to get the most out of that resist.
The biggest trick to learn with experimenting is where the break-over points are, and I believe the guide above has a pretty good description of what values these are at. These values are important because until you get past one you won't see any change in the stats of the item you're working on. This means that you can push to the highest break-point you can reach with your available points, and maybe have one or two left over to put somewhere else (usually durability to reduce the encum of the item, but not always).
This should get you started, but it's by NO means comprehensive and leaves out pretty much everything to do with layers and the joyful mucking around that's involved in making composite and padded
In truth, the best way to learn here is try anything and everything you can and see what happens - plus it's heaps of fun
Cheers,

Make sure that you use a good crafting station, +40 or more, and are in a research center specialized city,if you want to make sure you are doing almost everything possible to protect yourself against bad experimentation.

Also Bespin Port. (Exp clothing. And FS skills. But they can be expensive and time consuming.)
