I have been pondering coming back into the game after a long, long abscence.
Back when I was a fulltime AS, I monitored SWGCraft closely and was on at server reboot every day to jump on the best spawns. I currently have about 50 personally availble lots.
My question is this: Should I bother with a static farm? One of the reasons I stopped producing armor was I really, really began to hate chasing resources, however, I hate paying 40 CPU for them even more.
If you think I should dedicate part of my lots to a static farm, how many? 10 lots?15? 5?
FYI: My current break down of toons looks something like this:
Toon 1: MWS/MA/MMerch (probably do only custom orders with WS, as it's what I had done before)
Toon 2: MArt/MArch/MTailor (might drop some or all of tailor, depending on whether or not I can find a decent BE to work with. Before, I sold ONLY BE clothing. Architecht is also prob going to get the boot as I have more harvs/facts etc that I know what to do with.)
Toon 3: MSmug/MCommando (slicing is nice)

if you are coming back I would recommend not restarting all toons, it would become more of a job than anything and you might get burnt out
do a lot swap and make a little farm with lots from that and use yours to move around

It's very rare to see someone last in the resource mining business for very long. Based on that evidence I'm guessing it's easy to get burnt out. There was even a very nice operation on my server that had over 100 static harvesters, strategically placed to guarantee they could always have at least 10 harvs on a good concentration of any mineral spawn, but they burnt out even without having to move any harvesters. It just isn't fun, and if you're doing it in addition to making armor it'll probably lead to burnout even faster.
What works well for me, now that I have an established inventory with "best" resources, is relaxing and only jumping on the occasional uber spawn. For those spawns I can also get guild help if it's huge, and during my downtimes I can help the chefs/architects in the guild with their lot needs. If the spawn is just "good" then my 10 lots can usually harvest way more than I'll ever need.
I also switched to all ber13's even though they aren't as efficient in terms of maintenance, because it's sooo much easier just being able to dump a lot of power and credits in it and then not have to come back till the spawn is done.

I should also mention that sometimes the uber AS resources will only spawn on a few select planets. On Corbantis, our best intrusive ore in a long time only spawned on Endor and Dathomir, and the only really good colat we've ever had only spawned on Dathomir. A 997 OQ solid petro also spawned only on Dath which I think everyone missed, but that wasn't as critical because everyone did jump on a 996 OQ solid petro that was only on Dant, Yavin, and Dath.
So, my point is that static lots might work fine for a resource business that is just supplying "steel" for 1-2 cpu, but I just don't see how it would work if you're wanting to target specific AS resources.

Part of the reason I quit in the first place was getting burnt out. Too many eggs in my basket and all that.
Reading the boards a bit, and rumaging around my galaxie, it seems that most of the established smiths have static farms. I ran across one with over 45 heavies on it, out on endor. Since most of my friends and nearly my entire guild no longer play, I don't have the same support base that I used to.
Was looking for a general number on how many harvs I should look at allocating to my static farm. I should have stated in my orignal post that I have acess to 50 more lots via X-server.

dont do it!! you will get burnt out
try something different
make only janta/NS enhanced armor
be a wook armor only smith
hit 80% kinetic padded
specialize in chitlin
I am telling you if you got burnt out before, you will again
If you must start a farm, do it small, I would say 10-15 lots

There is no reason to hav to have soo many harvs..... I get away with 6 ber 13's..... I will never break records for the quantity of armor I produce, but that's not the point. Start small and see how it goes.

Was poking around through the invs of my various toons and realized I have far more resources from my old ASing days than I realized. Amazing what you forget you have. I also forgot that when my GF took over my Tailor/Arch toon, she maintained my old storage vendor and keep stuff from going poof in the Stockroom. Must remind self to buy her flowers later.
As to the shifts, ie a spawn not popping on a planet where I have my farm, I went through that before, but since lots were never an issue, I'd just wander out and plop some more down.
Went to Mos Eisley and hired a bunch of nooblet Artisans and such to survey and place harvs for me..it's been ever so long and I don't want to be a scrooge...but is 200K a lot/per Mo lowballing? Like I said it's been a long time.
Last time around, I did the high-end, uber-d00d gear, which wore thin after a while. I'm thinking this time around I'll focus on mostly PvE gear and fiddle around with suits for the lowbies out there....such as chitin etc. For some reason, I have backpacks full of kliknik crap. Can't even begin to imagine how old that stuff is.
Was thinking I might make runs of various suits of padded, all color-matched, of course...but padded is such a pain. Now I remember how much fun AS was!
Wait til the nooblets around Mos E get a load of my vendor tent 1km outside of town...assuming of course, they know how to use the vendor map.
Also made the mistake of shuttling around today, forgetting that my MAS tag was up...ugh.
Anyhow, thanks for all the advice. I forgot how much I truly like crafting.

I had static for awhile and just got tired of dealing with all of it. My 20 personal Lots will easily cover any new resource that pops up that I need. I like making armor so thats what I stick with. What the heck do we have to spend money on anyway?

Umm...more junk to clutter up my house that's already at the 250 item cap anyhow?
Another gong. You can never have too many gongs.

I'm starting a SMALL farming biz with 20 or so mediums. I'm mostly doing it for fun, but it can be a hassle when I have to run around for an hour running maintenance on harvs and reactors.
