Thread: Personalized Armor

Just a suggestion that I thought was a good idea.

Maybe to make a suit of armor "yours" Armorsmiths, either while crafting or with the customer who would like the personalized armor there, would alter it so that only the customer can wear the armor for maybe a small decrease in encumberance since, if it was tailor-made to your specifications, why wouldn't it fit better and allow better mobility?

Having thinking of how this could be made possible, maybe the AS could have the ability to take a "measurement" of the customer, which is placed in the inventory. Then opening the crafting window and placing the customers suit of armor in the required slots along with the measurement, most likely some special resources too for balancing purposes. Then when complete, same armor, just a difference in encumberance. Maybe a 5-10% decrease in enc, I dunno, I thought it would be neat.

interestind idea indeed...
only problem I see with that is everybody and their cousin will be pestering us to make them a custom suit of armor...btw, are you an armorsmith?

No not a smith, though I would certainly like to try my hand on it. Yeah, I suppose everyone would pester the smiths about it, but that's kind of like people pestering me for slices (master smuggler).

But that just gave an idea, take certain measurements and use them like slicing...I dunno, just thought it was a neat idea I thought to share.

That does sound like a cool idea. Perhaps armorsmiths could make a normal armor schematic, give it to the customer, who takes it to a tailor who could then modify it to your'measurements', who could then bring them to an armorsmith to have a custom suit created. All in all it shouldn't be all that hard to impliment, and would give tailors more things to do. An encumberance effect makes the most sense, but perhaps it could also be tailored somehow to your profession? Small bonuses to speed or accuracy based on the kind of weapon you use (your average posture and mobility would differ between professions...) I will bring it up with some devs for fun!!

That would open up a market for personalized armor, but the current way armor is made currently is by large factory runs of kinetic composite, stun composite, and ubese armor. It is difficult to get a custom suit even if you know the armorsmith.

Custom shops don't make as much money as cookie cutter shops, that's just the reality of the current SWG economy, make the largest runs of kinetic/stun composite and sell it. Don't even have to worry about colour anymore.

custom suits of armor blow and are not worth the time to any AS

The problem is you spend all the time making a custom suit of armor for a slight gain, then it gets an average or below average slice and suddenly you're worse off than a normal suit with a good slice.

I do like the idea though. It might be better after the smuggler revamp. Not sure I like the idea of how many tells I'd be getting for custom suits.

I had intended it that you give your current, existing suit of armor to the smith along with the measurements, they make the neccessary adjustments, whatever those may be, and hand it back, sort of like slicing.

I agree it would be a huge waste of time making a single suit from scratch like that. I guess I'm comparing it like you take a suit to a tailor to make it fit, whether you've outgrown it or shrunk in stature.

But it would be as annoying as smugglers getting tells for slices.

Ah, I misunderstood. That does sound better. But a lor like slicing.

How about this: Armor slicing does not make sense!

I cut up a kevlar vest, add something to it, to cut out parts...what the hell?!?! it's not like I'm adding a high-tech barrel or galvanizer or whatnot to it...I love sliced armor, but the mechanics of it are duplicitous, and you are basically asking if you could double-slice your armor.

And slicing a wooden staff does make sense?
