Thread: Maybe a stupid question
my friend that doesn't have the game wants to know
do you need marksman and medic or can just one work
Boo!
Its not a requirement to have any skill.
However, it would certainly be advantageous to give a Marksman at least some ability to heal him/herself.
Your friend may also want to consider getting a few basic scouting skills, too (in order to build small camp sites and harvesting a few basic resources for making healing kits (Stimpacks))
Infact, your friend may want to pick up some Artisan skills too. I think a new starters life is made a little easier if they start with Artisan, and train in Marksman and Scout straight off the bat, picking up Medic after a couple of delivery missions.
Your friend can then play the majority of roles and decided which path he/she would ultimately would like to follow with the benefit of first hand experience. The unnecessary skills can be discarded later, at no determent other than a few lost credits (100cr per base skill, infact).
Starting off with Artisan, gives you (rather your ’friend’) a couple of basic implements – Generic Crafting Device and a Mineral Survey Device. True these can be picked up fairly readily and cheaply these days but, I think it helps the new starter to have them from the beginning of his/her adventure.

i unlocked after 9, but moved to italy 2 days before pub 10 and just got internet here, and its not immediately apparent how to get my FS skills. Do i need to go to the village on dath, or start surrendering skills, or what. i appreciate your help folks,
You need to get to the Village, then you should get your free unlocks. One of the FS guides should have more specific instructions, I believe there is still a sticky at the top of this page but if not the FS forum will have them stickied.
After that, a couple of weak ass Sith attack you for the crystal. Kill them, loot, follow the wp from a disk one will have, go kill camp. Again, loot, follow wp to Dath, then to the village. You talk to the village elder who will tell you who to talk to next. Then you just go from there and fill 6 FS trees and then wait some more for another visit by the old man. He will give you a wp to Melinchae, a jedi who you have to kill. Group up, kill him and then will be able to do the padawan trials.
That's basically how to do it. The toughest part is killing Melinchae. 80% resists across the board with med. armor rating. Good luck.
