I know a lot of people don't like seeing everyonewearing composite armor and would like a little variety.
I know this is mainly because there are basically only 2 armors worth wearing, but this is a tricky problem to fix. Maybe instead of new armors, we could maybe think about more variety in the looks of the armor we have.
While far from a total solution, what I think could work really well is to have quest reward schematics that don't offer a new type of armor, but a new style. This schematic would be permanently added to the armorsmith's repetoire. During composite armor crafting the armorsmith would have the option of creating a suit in the new style at the same time he selects color. The armor would still be exactly the same, with a simple aesthetic change. Similar to the way architects can make different statues.
If the design managed to be different yet still remain complimentary to the default composite style I could see a huge variety appearing on players, achieved by mixing and matching components. It would all still be composite armor, the variety is purely visual., therefore the challenge to the devs is decreased.
Obviously the downside is that some armorsmiths would find it a bother to make 2 different factory runsof each armor piece, but I don't see it being more troublesome than suddenly having demand for padded and tantel armor skyrocket. As I say, it's not a total solution, but it could still make a lot of people happy and give combatants more chance to express their style without sacrificing armor effectiveness.
Anyway, dig in fellas. I'm interested in any pros or cons I've missed or any additions you can think of.
