As a new AS (0/0/0/0), I am noticing that quality makes a big difference. What do you do when there is mediocre resources available? I just started this toon and as such do not have the back resources from previous spawns. Do you just do the best you can and decrease the price or "this is what I have take it or leave it" (I prefer the first choice, but still have to make a living)? And last do most AS's take merchant very high or do they just contract with a Master Merchant?

My biggest advice I can give as an armorsmith of just 3 months is, dont start crafting loads of armor until you have some of the best resources. When you see the rare resources pop up like the colat iron, beryllius copper, kiirium steel etc... be all over it like a pedophile on a school bus. As Armorsmiths, and I'm sure this stands for most of the others, when an amazing resources pop's up we harvest it until we cant harvest it no more. For other basic resources, "salary permitting" we may resort to buying. But I can't stress it enough, when one of those resources pop up, don't get off of it. 100k - 200k isn't a lot of one resource!

The best path to take is to experiment with your mediocre resources and learn the profession while you wait for better resources to spawn - there is a lot to learn and it takes some time. If you want to make money right away, you could certainly sell what you make on the bazaar for cheap. On that note, you won't be able to start making decent stuff until you complete the fourth branch in the armorsmith tree (just one smith's opinion).

Collect the resources as you advance up the tree. Otherwise you'll be standing at master wondering why your stuff sucks so bad.

Keep plugging along and you'll get where you want to. MAS is not easy.

I agree with all the previous posters.

Use crappy resources to learn the art. Each armor has different ways of acting, learning how to make the segments/layers and so on, as well as loot items (such as shards, scales).

And keep an eye on swgcraft.com. Learn which minerals you need to make the advanced portions of armor and watch for good shift rates of MA, UT, SR and OQ.

And if all else fails, sell your armor to new players. While the old school players will not necessarily be willing to buy it, newer players might.

I have 3/0/0/0 in merchant. Gives me map advertising, 3 venders and 750 items per vender. I don't have a massive business so thats plenty for me.

Oh yeah, one more thing. If you do get map advertising, name your vender something descriptive. The map listing uses the venders name. Its much better to call your vender somthing like "layered comp" or "PSGs" or "effectiveness sliced armor" than "bobs armor." I can say from personal experience that expecially on naboo or corillia where there are lots of shops that I go first to the ones that have what I'm looking for in the name.
