Armorsmith specific section
The schematics
The schematics can only be bought by a Master Armorsmith who is aligned with the relevant faction. The schematics are bought from a Recruiter of the aligned faction. Recruiters can be found in cities all around the galaxy, however they are also located inside player faction bases.
The AS has to have "Combatant"/"Special Forces" status in order to be able to obtain the schematics. This is needed to be allowed to talk to the Recruiter who sells the schematics. It is recommended that the AS choose "Combatant" and goes "On Leave" as quickly as possible after getting the schematics unless you enjoy a high risk life. Armorsmiths are in general not famous for their fighting skills…
When you buy the schematic it will automatically be added to your datapad. Each schematic has 10 uses, and will loose one charge for each armor piece you make. You can not make a manufacturing schematic from the faction armor schematic (see exception below). You can only hold one schematic of each type regardless of how many uses are left. The Recruiter will refuse to sell you an additional schematic if you are already holding one of the same type.
Note: It is currently possible to make a manufacturing schematic for the belt in the Imperial faction armors. This is likely a bug, however since the belt does not have any sockets, protection or condition it is far from the worst bug our profession currently is facing...
Which schematics can I hold and can I trade them?
An Imperial AS can hold Rebel schematics and vice versa, i.e. it is possible to switch factions without loosing any schematics of the opposing faction. If you intend to do this on a regular basis, it might be costly in terms of faction points though…
It is not possible to trade faction armor schematics, even between aligned AS.
What rank should I have?
The amount of faction points you can hold is dependant on your rank. Unless you have a decent rank you risk having to go several trips to the recruiter to get a full set of schematics (unless you bring your Smuggler/donator of course). This is another incentive to stick to one faction. The grade of Corporal will give you a fp cap of 16k which is normally sufficient to buy a full set of schematics.
Your rank in the GCW has no impact on the schematic cost, only on delegating fp (see link above).
How to buy
The recruiter has a fairly big box with options when you talk to him, however the process is straightforward.
Start with:
"I need supplies...." and continue with
"I like to build. What schematics are available"
This will give you a list off all schematics that are available, including the ones you already hold. As mentioned earlier, if you try to buy a schematic you already hold the Recruiter will refuse to sell it to you.
The cost of schematics and Where to buy
The schematics are paid for with faction points (fp). The easiest way to get fp is to have friends who donate, or to make a deal with a Smuggler who can purchase fp from the Recruiter. Space is also a nice location to get “quick” faction.
The person donating fp should have as high rank as possible to reduce the loss of fp in the transfer process.
The cost of the schematics is dependant on the current status of the Galactic Civil War (GCW) at each planet. You should check the status at the recruiter before purchasing, as the price may vary significantly from planet to planet.
You are in general looking for a planet where your side is winning BIG. If your side is loosing, you will pay the maximum price. A typical cost you might see is:
Human, Rebel, GCW status 213:47
Gloves and Boots : 360 fp
Biceps, Bracers, Helmet and Leggings : 1441 fp
Chest : 2882 fp
This means that a full set of schematics will cost 12248 fp, and one suit will cost 1225 fp.
Faction discounts and penalties
Unless you are a human, you will incur a penalty when buying Imperial faction schematics.
Imperial Master Armorsmith / Master Smugglers are reported to get a discount when purchasing schematics (faction perk discount).
Making Faction Armor
The faction armor is an Appearance similar to e.g. Composite or Ubese. They are crafted in the same fashion as all other armor, using looted or made cores. You can health enhance faction armor similar to ordinary armor if you want. For all practical purposes it is handled the exact same way as standard appearances during crafting.
Conclusion Faction armor has been eagerly awaited new content for Armorsmiths after the CU. The possibility to be a part of the GCW without actually fighting is rewarding, and not only from a business perspective. Although it has been argued that the total faction point cost is too high, the demand has been fairly good on all servers and rightfully so; faction armor adds more authenticity and atmosphere to the Galactic Civil War than most of the other pieces of equipment you can obtain.
