Thread: Why is R.I.S. Battle Armor?

I have just recentlydecided to tapinto the R.I.S. market on my server and one thing that I was wondering is that if R.I.S. if supposed to be "the" status symbol as far as armor is concerned, why is it limited to just Battle Armor? I have had a lot of people inquire about buying a RIS suit only to to come back and say "Oh, I can't wear battle armor". Shouldn't something like R.I.S. be wearable by all combat professions? Or at least be dependent on the Cores used? Something so difficult should not be dependent on your choice of profession, especially if the armor skin is for appearance only.

I'd like to see assault and recon versions of RIS.. not the same suit wearable by all... but a bulker and a sleeker version of the armor. Of course.... I'd rather see them fix the current bugs than work on anything new.... and i know that new versions of RIS arent going to happen.

Along the same train of thought, I really do not like that RIS and mandalorian only get bonus condition. RIS was supposed to be the penultimate melee armor, so you might figure it crafts as battle, but gets a 1000 bonus to kinetic and/or mitigation reduction during the final combine, and even give any elite combat prof a basic cert for it.

Mandalorian seems like it was not thought out at all - why give what is supposed to be the best armor for hunting jedi an energy vulnerability..? I'd leave it crafted based on assault, but with a 1500-2000 bonus to energy during the final combine.

A lot of people have posted ideas about this situation since the CU, but the problem is that the basic mechanics of our profession are in shambles at the moment. So,ideas about these things and pushes for changes are on the back burner (you cannot even properly color all Mandolorian parts at the moment for Yoda's sake!). For high-end small timers like me, health bonuses being fixedis far more important, and I would guess the majority of smiths see the color/factory run issue as paramount right now.

I agree with the original poster. I could go on for ages about my dislike of the armor certification system, but what good would it do

Ialso agree that the current bugs should be top priority. Allowing all combat professions to wear RIS at a specific CL with cores based on their specific combat profession would be cool. This way people could have the look they want and still be restricted to a level of protection based on their combat profession. One thing I have noticed in my somehwat brief time as an Armorsmith is that people are very concerned with the "Digital Image of their Virtual Self"

Indeed. I sometimes regret being Rebel merely because all I can wear is Recon armor, and my faction stuff is the best I have, yet I look like a ...... trucking tanker, if you're any good at rhymes. Silly Reb Recon uniforms...

Anyway, the point...the point....ah yes, the point: I'm one of those people who get concerned over my digital image. How much nicer it would be just to be able to wear some RIS armor (like hell I can afford it, but hopefully when I finish the AS grind I can make some) to make me look better.

Yes, digital appearance can be very important.... good for attracting the lovely ladies in the cantinas....
