Thread: Mind HAM Hard Cap on Composite Helmets, anyone else seen this?

I really need to learn how to use image dump for this, but bare with me anyways:
I just hit 12 points this week and I was crafting a composite helmet for a guildmate with some exceptional Nightsister Shards. The Shards had a Mind Encumberance modifier of -71. (No joke here, they were truly exceptional!) The segments ended up having HAMS of 0/-14/-43. (I have a screenie of this)
Anyways, when I assembled a Bicep piece for him it had 0 mind Ham. However, when I did the Helmet it had very low Health and Action (both in the 30s) but the Mind was still around 250-ish. I experimented up the base as usual and then put the rest into HAM. The helmet ended up with Mind HAM of 206. (It was still a really nice Helmet, had a base of 71%!)
Now when I make a normal layered piece it comes in around 260-270 on assembly, a high base/ high HAM piece will be around 300. Having this exceptional loot in the segment only brought the intial HAM down for Mind by about 15 points.
This leads me to the conclusion that for Pants, Chestplates, Helmets, and possibly boots, there is a Hardcap on a specific HAM Bar. Has anyone else experienced this at all? One other note, Slicing does not at all appear to be effected by this Hardcap.
I am curious to hear what you all have to say on this. Perhaps it will help us get closer to unraveling some of the hidden formulas in Armor Crafting.

I have seen the Mind Encum lower than that on helms. Might be the cap on your resources. Still nice armor though. Congrats

yeah its probably teh resources. this is something weird that happened to me:
when i experiment base, once ive reached the limit of my bar the resist wont go up anymore, however when i attmpted to max out HAM on layers, i reached 6/6/6 and still had about 1/4th of the bar to go. every point i expermented into HAM futher only raised the percent by 2 or 3, and hte HAM never went down.
so perhaps youre nearing the cap of low ham for your resources, and youre seeing the diminishing returns.

Don't know if you use this, but it is an extremely helpful tool that i use when experimenting to see what my resource caps are at. Took me a little while to find it again.

What you're seeing seems to be a weirdness because of the way integrity and encumbrance are experimented on the same bar. What happened was you hit the HAM cap based on the OQ+MA of your resources, but still hadn't hit the cap on the OQ+UT. At that point HAM won't go down any more, but integrity will continue to increase.

Guys, I appreciate all the input, but it was not the resources. The Segs that went into that Helmet had a Mind Ham of NEGATIVE 43. I can make 0/0/0 Electrical Layers that will produce a helmet witha HAM around 240 or 250. Those segments have a POSITIVE Mind Encumberance when they go into the Helmet. (it is like 12 or 15) I was suprised that this helmet came out with such a relatively high HAM, given thevery high NEGATIVE Mind Encumb. I used server best resources in just about every category, in those that I did not I used the next best thing.
I think there is a built in Hard Cap on the initial HAM assembly of the Helmet. Some code that says, you can only go down to 2xx in Mind HAM for a Composite Helmet. WhenI madethe Bicep the Mind HAM was 0. I am wondering if there is some sort of Scale working underneath the resource equations that determine where your Armor starts in terms of HAMS? Specifically I think this occurs in the 3 High HAM pieces, Pants, Chest, & Helm. I really thought these Segs would have produced a sub 200 helmet right off the bat. No luck.
Thankfully my Bud got a good effectiveness slice on that helm.
I have concluded from this experience that NS Shards are not nearly as good as Janta Hide unless you are making a Stun Helmet or really care about getting those 5-10 points less in your HAMS. W/ Janta Hide and NS Layers you can make far superior Armor that is capable of hitting 90% with a Eff. Slice while still maintaining exceptional HAMS. These Exceptional NS Shards really did not produce as well as could be expected given their stats in a Helmet. In the above instance 3% Janta Hide would have produced a Base 74% Armor with HAM about 20-25% higher. At 74% you are almost guaranteed a 90% Helmet w/ an effectiveness slice, also a HAM Slice will still produce great above average Armor.

One other thing fellas,
I did not max out Encum in my Experimentation. I maxed out Base. What I am taking issue with is the fact that upon assembly these Segments produced a Helm with a Starting (before Experimentation) Mind Encum of over 250. I was able to experiment it down to 206 with only 4 or 5 points. My question is why did it start so high? That 68Base Acid armor in my sig uses 10 point (I am 12 now) Acid Layers maxed to 4% Base w/ 1 pt left over into the Hams. Those Segments had Encums in their 60s and produced a Helmet with a Mind HAM of around 300. W/ a difference of over 100 points between segments (and the Acid stuff uses slightly worse resources) the encum is only different by 50 points. This is what has aroused my curiosity. Anyone have any thoughts orideas on this?

The mind encumberance for a composite helmet is approximately 300 - exp.% x 1.2 + mind enc. of segment, for the bracer it is 25 - exp.% x 0.1 + mind enc. of segment. Hence, with a mind enc. of your segments of -43, your bracer will easily obtain a mind enc. of 0. However, your helmet will never get lower than (theoretically) 137 (300 - 100 x 1.2 - 43). When you experiment your encumberance on your helmet to say 50%, your helmet will have a mind enc. of around 200 (300 -25 x 1.2 - 43).
