Im a new MAS and want to be sure my Kinetic layer is up to snuff before I run 1000 of them off:
I made two:
Base: 3%
integ 335
Encum 17
Kinetic effect: 11%
Base 2%
integ 335
encum 17
kinetic 13%
is one better than the other?

you must work out how much kenitic you need, for ubese as much as possible, but for comp do not go too far past the 80% cap as it will be wasted. Thus if you final base is say 60%, you need to be looking for 7% kenitic (to cover the last 20% to 80%) get it?

ahh yes. Thanks for the help. Looks like this layer might work at 11% or so and place two layers in each piece to make 80%. Use the other points on Base. Also using two layers will help my encumb be lower as well.

you may find three layers is lighter than two, try on each layer just getting base to 2%, then kinetic to 8%, then get it as light as possible. If the HAM goes under 10% each layer you're winning....
3 x 10 HAM is better than 2 x 17 HAM mmmm

also, that 7% says you will use 3 layers. Is it best to use all three or get away with 2 where you can?
edit: you answered this as I wrote it

thanks for your help. I was able to make the following:
base 2%
Integ 730
encum 7
kinetic 9%
I made it 9% as I am not sure what my base will be yet so I wanted to play it safe. I have 12 points so I lowered the encum and raised the integ as much as I could. It would have taken 3 points to get base to 3% so I left it at 2%.

Almost always for good comp u have to get the layers to 4% Base regardless of the special resistance. On my server the common armor is 80Kin, 80Elec, 70Base. Well, common for the elite masters with 11-12 pts exp anyways. IMO, for decent comp u have to have above at least 67 Base. Thing is if u cant reach this, at least sell it as hunting armor. Meaning, be sure to reach max Kin at 80%. From a sales point of view, most customers only look at the special protection and not much else. Its too bad really but thats the way it is.

Not true re everything has to be 4% base.... Yes, some customers want the highest resists regardless of HAM, but you will also find many customers for 80% kinetic / 65% base with HAM in the 500's.... The mark of a true master armorsmith is he has to be the ability to craft a wide range of armor's to suit exactly the customer requirements.... The mark of a true master combat toon is he knows what equipment to use to get the job done to best effect..... Variety is the spice of life.
