Ok im trying to get back into the armorsmithing game after the CU, and i keep hearing conflicting reports on layers. Some say layers are a must and others say that layers arent needed or worth the resources if you use advanced cores.
Can someone tell me that has done both what if any real benifit to useing layers is? or the cons for that matter??

If you're selling for the masses, unlayered armor is the best way to go.
Layering is now a specialty product, and because elemental damage is so minor as to be laughable, there are only a few combos even worth thinking about. Primus layering is your best (and most expensive) bet, as it raises kinetic and energy at the expense of the irrelevant environmentals, though not by a gigantic amount. Energy-layered recon (or possibly battle) is a good choice for Jedi-focused Bounty Hunters. Kinetic-layered battle might be worthwhile for creature hunters. That's really about it.

the difference between layered and unlayered armor is about 1 million credits and 5-10% resistance

oooh, I'd say about a good200 to 500 plus for resistances, 2k - 5k of credits..
and one heck of a pain.
all depends on what your resource cache is like. if it's like mine, layers are out of the question ( least until I can get the stuff I want). unlayered, your still pumping out relatively desent armor for what it's suppose to do.
and yes, I am typing this with a straight face.
