I am new to the game and armorsmithing, can someone explain sockets and what are the best types of items to put in sockets. Thanks!

Sockets are slots in clothes and armor. A random number from 1 to 4 is added to cloths are armor when it is crafted. Clothing attachments go in clothing sockets, and armor attachments go in armor sockets.

Does resource quality have anything to do with the chance of getting 4 sockets ? Or is there any trick to making 4 socketed items? I've crafted upwards of 10 items before trying to get a 4 socketed result for schematics.

In armoursmithing, its all random, in tailoring, its based on your skill level.
So no, we smiths tend to have to make and destroy until we get the 4 socketed items... luckily, the only things people really look for in sockets is on the ubese shirts, mabari belts and possibly ubese bandoliers which arent too bad to destroy and re-make a few times.
