Thread: Layering still prohibitvely expensive.

I'm not quite capping unlayered, so I thought I'd poke in a single primus just to help it over the hump.

Sure it works, at the expense of elemental protection. Then I saw the great chunks of resources I was putting into the factory, did some quick sums, and decided it just wasnt worth it for the extra few hundred points gained versus the additional cost to me. Which obviously has to filter downstream to the consumer. I was planning to just wear the cost myself, and if the requirements were 1/9th of what they are I could. Alas layering is still relegated to the realm of expensive custom orders only.

Are the quantities now set in stone, or can we expect a revision of them in the near future?

Im pretty much only layering faction armour and doing unlayered on all else unless i get a custom order for it. Your right there its not worth it and it take alot longer to make too. Sense the health bonuses are still bugged no reason to do much else with it. Im only keeping one or two suits of each type of faction in stock at a time as well. Most folks are waiting for the health bonus to be fixed and makeing due with the other. At least on my server anyhow.

Generally I'll mass produce unlayered and just keep layered cores at the ready for special orders. But sometimes I'll get caught with my pants down and have to start a new set from scratch like yesterday when I ran out of energy layered battle cores..... had to make from the layers up on that one but hey the money's good

to me layered if more than worth it. I sell unlayered suits around 350k a suit, yet I sell layered suits at 1.5 million and I can't keep them stocked. PvP'er's (expecially BH's) are more than willing to pay alot for armor that has better stats, no matter how little additional protection it gives them, every little bit helps. Most serious PvP'ers will not by anything but layered, despite how much it get's delolished in PvP fights.

Cpt_Obvious...nice name btw, thats exactly what I do.

I use full layering in faction stuff, special orders, as a nice surpise to customers that treat me in a manner that doesnt make me want to reach through the screen and kill them..etc

I am currently crafting and selling faction recon unlayered armor (scout IMP with energy:68xx).

I lack of decent organic resources (Naboo bristley and Dantooine wooly with oq/sr > 600)

to craft unlayered storm IMP (battle)and schock IMP (assault).

I was thinking of "layering" my faction armors in the future:

. energy layers onrecon armor (but plexite haven't spawn on my server since CU).

. primus layers on battle armor (I need a good neutronium steel)

. assault armor: kinetic layers seems dangerous because of jedis and stuffs so perhaps primus layers is a better choice ... any advice?

Thanks in advance

I don't realy have started making layered armor. I'm not a big time smith and layers takes a lot of resources (and factory time).

I'm sticking with unlayered armor for now.

With a layered set of armor going for 550k to somewhere up into the millions depending on the stats I have been building layered armor but... Here is this thing I mine 90 to 95% of all my resources myself so cost is relatively cheap to me to begin with... Last week I mined over 2 million units of Gravatonic Fiberplast and am still putting away another 125k of it every couple days (had to move 4 harvestors to different fiberplast spawn sr and oq both 950+)...

A few good BER13 harvestors + 1 fusion reactor to power them all... can reduce your costs alot... I am able to power 13 harvestors and 2 factories with one fusion reactor and still have power left over... AND here is the big one you have to go look to see if the resource you want is spawned. I see many times mentioned here use swgcraft database to find the resource you want but...Honestly anyone who has found the GOOD spawns are keeping them to themselves and you won't find them in swgcraft database its worth more to them if they mine it and sell it to you after it despawns...

I try for 90+ concentrations but as I've posted before with BER13 Harvestor using the power from your fusion reactor even on 70 concentration your cost per unit is somewhere around 0.2 credits or less compared to the same resource some one is going to turn around and sell you for how much especially if it is rare and good quality...

To illustrate my point I just returned from the trade forum... the same fiberplast (OQ997, SR 940) that I have 6 harvestors on 90 to 92 concentrations pulling out for about 0.1 credits per unit another armorsmith is paying 7 CPU to get...

well im on chimera and got a lot of good AS to compete against, i havnt got the money to buy uber resources so i add layers into all my armour just to get a decent protection rating, then i sell them for about 250k a pop, if im losing money ah well. but i got to get a base of customers to start with then when the uber spawns come around i can get my guild and friends to harvest for me. or use my little bit of scout i kept just to get hides.

yes it is expensive and yes it does take time, but i have no other option.

the most ive got is 6300 energy on some recon cores yesterday.

(only been AS for about 2.5 months no)
