I looted 5 identical reinforced kliknik shells from the Geonosian cave today. In the details it says that they would make exceptional chitin segments. Here are the stats:

Base 17%

Integrity 6550

HAM -18/-8/-10

Are these any good? And what kind of chitin armor could these produce?

Thx,

Shammus

Thanks for the info. I'm not an armorsmith and don't quite understand the stats so I was just wondering if these were good or not.

Thx,

Shammus

Shammus, I believe you're on Tarq, right? If you still have these over the weekend I'll make up some Chitin for you using these segs for no charge other than my own curiosity. I have some decent material for Chitin, my normal stuff can hit 65% kinetic.

Yes, I'm on Tarq. That would be cool. What resources and stats are needed for making high quality chitin? And would you be able to make a full suit out of the 5 shells? I'm going to be out of town until Sunday, so I won't be able to be online until then. That is unless I can get SWG to work on my old company laptop. lol.

Thx,

Shammus

Shammus, catch me on Sunday then and I'll make something up for you. Unfortunately, you'll only be able to get a couple pieces of chitin out of this, like a chest and gloves, or pants/boots etc. That doesn't mean you can't get more shells though...Chitin segs don't need to be identical (factory run).

Cool, I'll contact you on Sunday. What resources and stats on those resources are needed to make the best chitin?

Thx,

Shammus

The problem with these (and other non-Krayt segment drops) is the fact that they have no special protection characteristics corresponding to the inherent special protection of the armor.

In the case of the Kliknik Shells for Chitin armor, you will end up with much, much lower kinetic protection (Chitin's inherent special protection) than you would with even mediocre player-made Chitin segments. In fact, I doubt you can get the kinetic protection much higher than 35% with these segments, though I could well be underestimating the experimental limits.

You would, however, have very nice protection against energy, blast, and acid, which you could experiment up into the 40-50% range with high-quality materials. You would still have vulnerabilities to stun, heat, cold, and electricity.

As mentioned previously, the encumbrances would be quite low.

However, I would classify these as more of a novelty item, with only a very small niche use. The best use I can imagine for these would be ranged combat with low-level NPCs.

That depends, are these a segment replacement...or are they enhancements...like krayt scales and the like. If they are the former, then two queststions....first, does that mean that Kinetic stays as a Base Resist, similar to what happens with electrical and krayt segments in composite, or does kinetic just stay as special and these only affect the other stats. in that case, they are a novelty, but if kinetic stays in base, they would be sweet.

....and if they are the latter then you get a sweet suit. Still high kinetic, and with a 17% boost to base stats and lower HAM.

I am 99.9% sure that these are segments, not enhancements.

As for your other question ...

No, kinetic will not be an effectiveness resist with these segments, as electricity does with Krayt Composite segments. Current Kliknik, Brackaset, and Sharnaff Chitin segment drops all produce Chitin armor pieces thathave kinetic as the special protection, despite there being no kinetic protection listed on the segments. The same is seen with loot-dropped bone armor segments (energy remains the special protection) and padded armor segments (blast remains the special protection).

This is why I believe that composite actually has no inherent special protection, and that there is some sort of bug where player-crafted composite segments have an inherent electric layer.
