I am wanting to purchase a suit of Armor. However my limited knowledge of it has lead me to these boards. I am currently a novice ranger/ novice pistoleer, I never really pvp. I have heard composite is good but don't know much about it, and the same with personal sheild generators. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks.

I would reccommend reading some of the stickied posts above to get yourself familiar with how armor works. That's going to be your #1 ally for figuring out which is the best armor for you.
Guessing from what you said, I would say a good set of chitin or ubese would probably suit your needs for 90% of what you do. Composite is great stuff but it does have heavy penalties on your secondary stats (encumberance). Other armors are typically lighter and you can wear them unbuffed.
Hope this helps.

If you are a ranger/ pistoleer, I would get a good set of high kinetic resist ubese. Mainly because most of the things you fight will be using kinetic attacks, and this will keep you standing long enough for you to kill them.
As a ranger, develop a good relationship with an armorsmith and potentially you can work out a barter with armor and hides
