I started on my RIS component hunt about a week and a half ago. I wasn't going for the fancier Interwoven RIS, just regular RIS. I hunted GDK with some guildies one day with no luck. I started trying to find them on vendors and was fortunate enough to find one that had 7 identical scales for 7 million. I immediately bought them. I started hunting the Gurk King hides next. These were easy enough to find. I bought 9 for 300k from a guy after hunting for these all afternoon, which I found very generous of him. Next came the Harrower bones. These things only spawn once every hour and 7 minutes. I camped them for 3 days unitl I finally looted 5 bones. I didn't want to wait another 3 days for this and I didn't like the fact that I was camping to begin with. So I hunted down someone who had some and bought the 4 I needed for 250k a piece.

I was finally down to just needing 2 GDK scales. I hunted these things for about 4 days, which in my opinion is very hard to do if you are NOT a melee stacker. I had guildies help me when they could, but usually everyone was too busy doing other things. I started getting frustrated becasue I really wanted my RIS. So, I post on my trade forums on Wanderhome and attempted to get someone to sell them to me. After 3 days of bumping my thread, I had just about given up when a nice wookiee sent me a /tell and said he'd sell me 2 of them for 3 million. I was ecstatic!!!

Well, now all I had to do was have it crafted. I knew a Master Armorsmith who specializes in RIS, so I sent her a /tell. She told me charges 500k for the crafting of it which was no big deal, she had the other resources needed and even threw in some Janta hides. Finally, I was getting what I set out to get. That feeling of accomplishment was starting to get me antsy as I waited on the 12pt Master AS to finish crafting them.

Then the moment came. She told me that she got a couple of amazing successes. "Awesome", I thought. Then she told me that on the right bracer... she had a critical failure. A what?!?!?! Let me get this straight... I have 500k left in the bank after spending over 11 million credits on the components... had a 12 pt MASTER create the armor for me... and there's a critical failure!?!?!?!

Why is there a critical failure on the crafting? I can understand it on experimentation... but on the crafting?!?! Come on!!!!!! Well, I realize that it wasn't her fault and never once blamed her. It just plain sucks is all. I now have to find 1 more piece of everything... the hardest being the GDK scale. I swear....

Anyways, I wanted to share it here in the AS forums, because I know you guys have had to deal with this and can appreciate the story a little. I'm still very excited with what I have, but it just doesn't feel complete. I need to hunt that last piece again...

yes, it does suck

I have failed on assembly more than one, it was an interwoven peice, and some nice NS layers were also eaten

sorry to hear.. but at least you're almost there... gives you somehting to d fora little while =)

to keep things on the bright side... GDK scales on Gorath will cost you from 3-5 million credits each... and the other components 350-500k per... then you have another 3-5 mil foreach interwoven schematic....

When I got my certification, I had exactly enough ingredients to make a helmet for myself, and the guildmate who'd gotten the scales for me.

Each and every time I hit the button to assemble, I literally curled up, held my breath and closed my eyes, and waited for the little clicking sound that indicated it'd gone on...instead of borking up.

I now live in fear of the day i have to tell someone I failed on their RIS, because I just know it's coming -- karma, you see. Mine came out well, so I have to screw someone else's up.

Sorry to hear that, it definitely bites when that happens.

Of the 60-70 pieces I've made, only one has ever failed on assembly, despite using pyollian cake, etc. Throughout all the experimentation on those pieces, I think there were around 10-12 failures on experimentation (when I say 'failure', I'm also including the 'good' and 'moderate' successes).

lol...U sound like me. when i was trying to get RIS certified i probably spent X amount of credits and weeks of shopping around. finally i ahd all the pieces to craft my first seg and i get a critical failure on assembly. i just wanted to /cry. i was even a 12pt smith with +25 assembly in a research center using a 100% crafting tool and a +45 crafting station. Talk about bad luck. but some how i feel better now after reading your story...lol

crit fails happens with ris. also if a smith is using ploy cake for every assembly, and port of each time they experm. it takes hours to put together a fullsuit. alot of down time to wait for stomach to clear

Critical Failures?

Is it just me, but It seems to me thatmost if not all my critical failures happen in the afternoon and evening time, and not so much if every notice it happening in the morning, PST. Valcyn Server.
