Ok, making stun layers. Suck back a bespin, put 4 points in durability, 7 points in resistance, and get an amazing. Leaving me just one point to stick in resistance. Decent?? Wrong way of doing it?? I assume those first 11 points would be the same as me getting 11 straight amazing's doing it one point at a time.

using AS helper, I can max out stun layers after 8-9 points. So I was sticking my other 3-4 points in dura to bring ham down. Is that not the usual way to do it??

not on stun layers, your goal with those is max bas and max stun

New AS getting ready to make up my first runs of layers. Basically, I'm just wondering if anyone could give a new smith some pointers on how to experiment. How many points do you use at once?? What results (great sucess, amazing success) should I shoot for. Do you always use Bespin Port?? I think only for the first batch of points would make sense, otherwise it could take a long damn time just to get the layers you'd like. Any and I mean ANY help would be appreciated.
Thanks all.

i only use port on final armor combines, when making layers with ultra rare resources, and when making segments with loot enhancers.
for run of the mill comp i just grind 20-30 layers until I get a double amazing... or the encumbrance i feel is low enough

if you want to make the best armor possible, always go for amazing successes. they act almost as additional experimentation points, enabling you to make much better armor. your best bet is to experiment as much as you need to in one attempt. if you want base as high as possible, use as many points as you can at one time in the base effectiveness line and keep doing this until you get an amazing. do the same with your remaining points in the encumbrance or special effect line, depending on which you need to experiment on. i generally only use pieces where all my experimentation results are amazing successes. sure it takes longer to get what you need, but if you want to be the best that's the only way to do it.
