Thread: Need some expert MAS's to help with RIS crafting

I've started crafting RIS recently and my results are around 80% kinetic 58% base which is really no good at all. FYI I am an 11pt smith. Here's everything I did to craft this piece (helmet) as well as the components resources used, please check it out and tell me where I'm screwing up

RIS Segment:

2x Kinetic Layers: 3% Base 11% Kinetic HAM 16/16/16

1x Janta Hide: 3% Base

Acoido Titanium Aluminum: Mal: 313 OQ: 955 SR: 348 UT: 300
Acob Rori Fiberplast: Mal: 681 OQ: 934 SR: 900 UT: 566
Mahodir Chanlon Intrusive Ore: Mal: 138 OQ: 904 SR: 544 UT: 464

These areTHEBEST resources to spawn on my server, so if they are a problem, I can't help it. Seeing as how other AS's on my server are making great RIS they can't be an issue. I'm also aware that the janta hide is pretty weak, but that can't add THAT much to base....or can it. You tell me. Anyway.

My experiments where simple. Maxed out kinetic and dumped the rest into base. I believe I put 8 or 9 pts into kinetic, and the other 2 or 3 into base. Screenshots didn't save so I don't have exact number unfortunatley. Either way, kinetic was maxxed and the rest went into base.

RIS Helm:

Aifekit Vendusii Crystal Amorphous Gemstone: Mal: 533 OQ: 832 SR: 883 UT: 781
Abicho Known Solid Petrochem Fuel: OQ: 992
Owolcherf Talusion Fiberplast: Mal: 969 OQ: 798 SR: 427 UT: 342
Quadafeib Chromium Aluminum: Mal: 588 OQ: 813 SR: 598 UT: 552
Oidum Platinite Copper: Mal: 894 OQ: 959 SR: 740 UT: 696
Emoc Rori Wooly Hide: Mal: 628 OQ: 809 SR: 894 UT: 785

Most of these resources are pretty stong....excluding the talusion fiberplast which could be better. Most of them are top 3 or 4 on the server, some are the best to have ever spawned.

My experiments here where simple as well. 3pts into kinetic gave me my 80%, the other 8 where dumped into base. This made me an 80% kinetic 58% base helmet. Non very good results.

In conclusion....what did I do wrong. Any help would be appreciated as RIS is way to expensive to get results like this.

this is the guide I followed....in face when I followed it verbatim my results where worse (80% kin / 50% Base), althought I was using lesser resources. This time around I dumped nothing into HAM and everything spare into base, and got my afformentioned results. This is why I'm asking for help

Also....I'm trying to tweak my RIS recipe to be as good as possible before investing in interwoven. I suspect I'd want to hit at LEAST 70% base on non interwoven before going interwoven...or at least somewhere in that range. ESPECIALLY when I'm using some of the BEST EVER spawned resources. Thanks tho.

I read the guide you followed as well, certain parts didnt make sense. Although I havent crafted any, It seems the author tells peeps to put remaing pts into HAM as opposed to base (for segs I think). Ill take another look and edit my post.

A note though:

The guide is wonderful! If a mistake was made typing it out thats certainly understandable.

i agree the guide is great....my problem is my results when following the guide. I musta made a mistake somewhere

which formula did you use? I reworded it a bit. It was a little confusing about when to dump points into HAM

2x kinetic layers and 1x janta hide (or rancor hide)

make sure you are using double amazing kinetic layers (layers made by getting an amazing on experimenting on base and on kinetic resists). If you have 12 experimentation points you should be able to use layers something in the range of 11% kin 4% base. I would rather use these than a 14% kin 2% base, because it is easy to overshoot the kinetic resists and the extra base is helpful. I personally wouldnt use any janta/rancor if it is less than 4%, but use what you have.

for experimentation max special (kin/bottom row) on seg then dump everything into base (middle row), if you have anything remaining put them into HAM

On final combine you will prob only need like 3-4 points in special to hit 80% so don't over shoot it. Once you are at 80% kin dump everything into base. If you have anything less lower the HAM (most 12 pointers will have a few left over to dump into HAM)

after you have a made a few with this method, you should know what your resources are capable. You want to just touch 80% kin so that you can get the max possible base. You can dump more into base on segment, after you know what your resources are capable of. You can get 80% kin 75%+ base pretty easy using this method, even using a standard janta hide. Try upping the quality of your resources if you can. This will be a bit heavier RIS but the resists look nice and it can slice to 90% base without too many problems.

if you are not a 12 point smith yourbase will be lower. This formulauses 11% kin 4% base kinetic layers, that is 4 points higher base right there, andit should not be difficult at all tofind something better than a 3% janta hide, just ask around or post on your trade forums.

If you can not make 11% kin 4% base layers, talk to some other 12 point smiths and see if they will get you some layers

Regular RIS Crafting (noninterwoven)

Well, there really isnt a lot to this I don't think at least. First off, I would recommend just forget about acid and stun right off the bat. If you want to try to tackle that you need to do interwoven.

Really only 2 decent versions of regular RIS 80% kin/high base or 80% kin, low HAM

80% kin/80% base unsliced

this is what you should work towards. Don't worry about HAM, it will be lighter than your cmoposite counterparts. This can be made one of two ways.

version one [the no brainer version]

2x kinetic layers and 1x janta hide (or rancor hide)

that one. only change was i experimented base on seg not HAM

I don't think you have made any mistakes with the helmet [if you not counting in having just amazing successes all the time?] . If you have done the armor with an interwoven schematic you have likely hit 80%base too (adding a cube and an extra layer).

my apologies, the RIS guide was edited.

put a few points into special on seg, rest into BASE (not HAM)

get some better kin layers and a better hide and you will be good to go

better as in what. im using 3/11 now...would 4/11 make all the difference?

would raise base at least 2 points, maybe 3, also a 5% janta hide would bump base 2% more and leave you at 62% base without changing anything

for those that have made a lot of RIS you will a lot of time notice that when you are experimenting on special on the final combine you might experiment to like 77% kinetic or 78% kinetic. I don't know about a lot of you but it make sme mad that I have to use an entire exp point to bump it 1-2%. Know your resources, know your layers, you will want to experiment from like 74% kin up to 80% kin with one point instead of falling just short. Freeing up this one point to dump into basecan raise you base several points too without changing resources or componets.

unless I am in my "I could care less they will buy it anyways mood" I always use double amazing kinetic layers in RIS (amazing experimentation in special and an amazing in base). WHy drop 1-5 mill on a GDK scale if you won't take 30-40 min to get the perfect layer
