OK, first I would like to state that I am a swordsman/ranger, not an Armorsmith.

I do, however, have some questions regarding armor post-CU that I have been unable to find difinitive answers too after searching this forum for 2 days. Maybe I haven't read the right posts, maybe I neglected a thread based on the message subject. Whatever the case, these are the things I would like to know:

  1. Is there any official word on whether we will be able to retrieve AAs and CAs from our armor?

  2. Will the pre-nerf Mabari and Ubeese pieces be wearable by any proff post-CU?

  3. What is up with gloves and boots, will they be needed/beneficial or not?

  4. Is encumbrance really based on only one piece of armor post-CU?

  5. What stats will be needed for armor resources, and is that the same for all armor? (I heard OQ/UT)

1. Np offical word as of yet

2. You will only be able to wear it if your profession is certified.

3. Gloves and boots will be AA holders now Don't take dmg, so won't decay.

4. Hinderances will be taken from the piece of armor that is the highest on these.

5. OQ/SR... for now.

Darn

Good, saves me 2 ADKs

Good, I'd hate it if al the hides I have sold to armorsmiths would be invalidated.

If you stay ranger, you'll prob make more money after the CU on hides. They are giving us the shaft on organics.

I started playing SWG a couple weeks after Tempest (my server) went live. I started my character as a scout. With the exception of 2 weeks during my holo grind, I have NEVER dropped my novice scout box. For the first year I played, I was content to make about a million credits per month.

About 9 months ago, I started harvesting resources for money. While I was making 1 mil a month reviiously, I suddenly found I could make between 1 and 3 million credits PER BUFF SESSSION! Needless to say I have been doing that ever since. My Swordsman/Ranger combo is currently phenominal for creature grinding, with minimal skill tapes used.

After the CU, I do intend to continue my resource collecting. As you can see by my signature, I am also getting my guild mates involved as well. At least OQ/SR will remain the important stats, so current AS stockpiles will still be useable and irrational amounts of hide won't be needed to replace worthless stock. That being said, the increased number of organics needed for armor will result in more units of hide desired afther the CU. I think this would result in more scouts and rangers harvesting resources, which, I think, would be a boost to the economy. The wealth will be spread to more people, which should result in a more stable economy.

Just my opinion as a ranger.

Think of it this way:

  • Everyone now gets a set of buffs and puts on their best composite armor when they go out to do any fighting. Why? because comp is the best overall armor and anyone can wear it, so everyone wears it (unless they have RIS).

  • In the first weeks after the CU, there will be a HUGE demand for Recon- and Battle-level armors, just because people won't be able to use their comp armor anymore.

  • Once people can afford it (if they can't already), they may need multiple sets of armor for different scenarios.

  • The end result is more suits of armor needed per person, and a lot more business for AS

So, you may need more hide to make a suit of armor, but you will make/sell more suits of armor, on the whole, then you make/sell now.

This is my current thinking process. Let me know if you find flaws in it. I am still trying to understand and anticipate the CU.

as long as they dont bring back the need for horn it will probably take a few weeks to ramp up with the new resources and rangers will most assuradly be busy. even bad resources are better then no resources when you have a server full of people who cant get any armor to wear.

That's my thinking. Our guild is small due to our recent revamp, but we have 2 rangers and a bunch of scouts. We hunt together a lot now for xp/resource grinding. I expect we will all make a lot of money post CU.

The hard part right now is enduring the drought before the flood. Nothing worthwhile is being bought on Tempest now. The only resource I know is selling is a pain to get and only paying 25 cpu. In a complete buff grind I might be able to make 500k. That may seem pretty good to a bunch of people who will now consider ranger as a profitable profession, but as a ranger I usually make (on average) three times that amount. And when you can only play for 3-4 hours a day, and you need a few more ADK for an imortal suit of armor after the CU, 500k a day isn't very good.

I'm working hard to get all my CU resources as we speak. I'm guessing that half of them will change, but I am sticking to find everything so I can hit the groud running. The only problem I forsee, is the organics. These are always the hardest to get. Like Naboo bristley.... what is up with that? That is the only resource I know I will have a problem with, I have everything else.

It's not going to go as good as you think after the CU hits. I'm not quiting, I'm actually eager to see what they are going to do. We have to be able to provide armor once the CU hits, and if they keep these requirements, I don't see it happening. Most AS after the CU are only going to be able to handle one type of armor right away. I've started an alliance with another smith and we are working our @ss off. We've had the best spawn on 2 of the new resources this week..... busy busy busy.

Ok, I started to rant there, but it was a good one

Anything from Naboo, Talus, or Rori is a real pain to grind, I leave that for the low-level combatants.

The key there is "right away". AS will need to gather other resources, which should translate into more business for me

Scaley Hide will be needed for Assault Armor segments. The current Tempest Yavin Scaley Hide is rather good. I have been able to harvest it at a rate of about 8k to 10k per hour. Mission payouts for Klikniks are over 12k.

There is bound to be some business there.

THAT is the resource that I speak of. I have only found a buyer at 25 cpu. You say you get 8-10k per hour, that is 28-35k in a 3.5 hour buff session. At 25 cpu, that come out to 700-850k credit per buff. Again, seems like a good payout, but it is half of what I make on average...

Now your signature says you are jsut a scout, so I would probably harvest more than you, resulting in a higher payout. I might be able to make over 1 mil in a buff if I am with a group member. I suppose if I could get a guild member who needs money, we could group and do missions together. That way he/she makes some good money too. I still need another 5 million or more before I can buy my FINAL ADK, which is really the only reason I am raising money at this time.
