Thread: Non Armorsmiths (the ones that complain about us not taking their orders) please read inside.

OK, this has been the subject of much controversy lately, so I figured as one of Bloodfin's more popular armorsmiths that I would step forward.

First, to introduce myself, I am Retneprac Yar aka Eedun'ki Yar, aka Junior Yar (Master Armorsmith). I craft some of the finest R.I.S., BH and Mandalorian Armor on Bloodfin. I dont mass produce armor like a lot of armorsmiths do, instead I focus directly on special custom orders. I believe that when I can work directly with a customer one on one I can make the armor that the individual needs,wants and will be happy with. However, while all I do is custom orders, I only do about 2 per week, which seems to be more than what most armorsmiths do, but here is why.

1. Layers take 204 seconds (apx time) per layer in the factory. Each segment takes up to 4 layers, and usually when you want primus, energy, you will be getting it quad layered.

2. Each segment takes 226 seconds (apx time) per segment in the factory.

3. Each armor core (3 per chest plate, 2 per legs, head) takes 226 seconds (apx time) per piece in the factory and uses 3 segments each core.

10056 seconds (if my math is still good and it probably isnt), which when divided by 60 seconds = 167.6 total minutes to craft 1 chest plate (that's almost 3 hours). Now obviously, if you have 3-4 factories it's only gonna take 167.6 minutes max time to craft, no biggie, but then you gotta count the 30 or so minutes it takes to craft the perfect layers, segs, cores for this armor, so now we are up to 3 hours 15 minutes apx time for 1 +50 enhanced chest plate.

Now, while I may be one of the better armorsmiths on Bloodfin (and believe me the 3-5 emails I have EVERY DAY for custom armor speak for themselves) I dont craft armor for money, I do it for part time fun to kill boredom. I will do 2 custom orders per week, no more. It's just a major drain. Would you want to have to take 3 hours to make1 chest plate and listen to somebody complaining cause it takes so long? No, you wouldnt.

Now, when dealing with the prices of custom +350 health bonus orders, take these things into effect. ( I will use battle armor as my basis, as its my specialty)

1. for a chest plate you need 13 identical looted health bonus loots (krayt scales, nightsister armor fragments).

2. Peko Peko Albatross Feathers for the feathered enhancement.

3. (optional depending on stats of feather and looted health bonus loots) Acklay Hide with health bonus.

------

Now, the reason 3 is optional is this;

1. To make a chest piece without using an acklay hide, you need those 13 krayt scales or NS armor fragments (or whatever else you can use for battle armor) to be at least +10 or higher (if you have a +20 peko feather), the reason;

remember when I said each core took 3 segments? +10+10+10=+30 health bonus + 20 peko feather = +50 health bonus.

Now, say you have 13 +9 health bonus enhancers. +9+9+9=+27 +20 peko feather = +47 (not +50). This is where the looted acklay hides come into play, they range anywhere from +11 - +23 (from my experience, they may be higher than that). You can then add the acklay hide, (we'll say we have a +11) into the factor and you have.

+9+9+9=+27+20(peko feather)=+47+11(acklay hide)=+50(cap)

Now if you dont have a +20 peko feather, say a +15 (average) and you only have +6 krayt scales.

+6+6+6=+18 +15(peko feather)=+33. Now in this case if you dont have at least a +17 acklay hide, you will not hit +50.

-----------------------------

In closing, I hope this clears some stuff up and more people will understand why us armorsmiths dont want to do constant custom orders. I have to turn down 10-12 orders every week because I either dont have the stuff or I just dont have the time. I generally try to refer people to other AS's. Thank you for your patience and for reading this, and please keep it bumped.

This is such a welcome post! He put it on our (Bloodfin) galaxy trade post because of all the whining we have had lately about the +350 armor. We are a huge PvP server and everybody wants their set now! I can no longer log in during peak hours without having 8-14 tells about +350 armor even before I log in! It's ridiculous!

Oh - and to add for non-AS's to read, when you put in an order, please don't bug the armorsmiths every 15 minutes asking if the armor is done yet. :-p

You know what makes it even worse is noob as's telling customers "Well I cant make any for you atm but I dont see why these other as's are telling you it will take 3 days to complete AND they are charging you that much?" All along knowing exactly how long it takes and how much it costs. They just do it to make the real good as's on the server look bad all because they are jealous I guess.

I turn down99% of allHealth Armor requests.

It's just too much of a pain to make.

I just tell whoever is asking, "I'm sorry, but I don't make health enhanced armor because I don't have time"

Much easier that way.

I only make it for very very close friends. (usually the ones that bring me stuff for free and deserve it)

I stock my vendors with basic unlayered armour and then take custom orders on almost anything (except Health Bonus stuff, because that sh*t is just annoying). For the custom orders I 'mass produce' my componets in advance so I have stocks of all types of cores (unlayered, kinetic layered, energy layered and primus layered) ready to go. If I start to run low on something I just begin the process of replacing them before I actually run out.

I find this works very well and goes down really well with customers too, as I am often able to complete their custom orders within hours (if I am online and have no backlog). Never underestimate a customers appreciation for good customer service

The only problems I have with this is when my mass restocking of vendors clashes with needing to replace a certain type of layered core, but that could be solved by more factories if I felt it was necessary.

I guess im an oddball then. I stock my vendors weekly with armor to sell. I do alot of my padded and marauder in factory crated runs to help alleviate some time. Do the same thing with tantel. This then allows me to be able to hand make the ubese and composite armor. I normally keep about 30 sets stocked on my vendor of each type. I then do custom orders as well. As long as its not health armor, I can normally do it within 24 hours as I always have the layered cores in stock. IF I find my self down below 77 cores, i immediately start up more layers so that im ready to roll when I finally do run out of cores.

I do approximately 30 to 40 custom orders per week and 2 health suits. I might be crazy, who knows, but I kind of like making the 100 to 200 mil credits per week.

The point of this post was for all those who request health enhanced armor. On our server, the PvP is rampant and there was some posts about how AS's wont do custom health enhanced armor (which even here no one will do). It's not hard to find someone to do a custom color, but if you want the enhancers, understand that it's not a three minute process. There's no way you can do 30 to 40 health suits a week.

I retired during the second week of BH armor due to this. I still craft enhanced for friends and guildmates, but no more orders at allotherwise.

While I agree with the OP to a certain degree about the impatient nature of customers, keeping 500-1000 cratedunits of energy, primus & kinetic layers handy always helps reduce order times. A 1000 run of layers takes a approx 72hrs and I normally have at least one factory working 7 days a week spitting out layer runs to keep on top of it.
