Thread: Armor Matters vs Armor Doesn't Matter vs This is all about what your combat level is!
- If you are several levels above your target, your weapon delivers much higher damages to the target on each hit.
- If you are several levels above your target, the target delivers much lower damages to you on each successful hit.
- Anything half your combat level or under can literally beat on you all day and your will regen faster than it can damage you (this only works for one mob tho, get two and it will start eating your health).
Armor Matters vs Armor Doesn't Matter - Armor Matters ... but not near as much as it used to matter and is not needed if you have a healer.
- When fighting mobs several levels below your level, they already deliver a lower (crippled) damage amount. The armor absorbs a small portion of it.
- When fighting mobs the same level as you, the armor does absorb a larger portion of the damage (proving armor has value).
- When fighting mobs several levels higher than your level, the armor is useless as their damage is grossly exagerated due to the level.
- No amount of armor can protect you from the combat level exagerationof damages.
What did I find out?
- Armor was not needed against lower level mobs.
- Armor did not help me at all when I stumbled on a level 78 mob (I got beat down before I actually knew I was attack - game music off).
- A group of players (5), being healed by me...
- While armored, I still had to heal them when fighting 2 or 3 same (near same) leveled mobs.
- While un-armored, I healed them on average of 25% more when fighting 2 or 3 same (near same) leveled mobs.
- at no point did I ever get near "mana out" condition ... we were never in any danger of me not being able to heal them.
In summary, Armor is a optional piece of equipment that can be offset by having a good healer in your group. Solo people do need to wear armor because it does offset some damage that would normally effect the health bar. Without the assistance of a healer or other group members, I am sure 2 or 3 mobs could easily work your health bar down until you are dead. However, a single healer can easily support 5 and I would say possibly all 8 members of a group even if they do not have armor. Finally, is armor worth the 800K for a suit? That will be up to each person to decide. Either way, whether you have armor or not, if you have a good healer, you will live and the mission will be done.
*** Now if a combat class could take a group of stims B - D and see if they can actually solo or play as a group without a healer (and without armor), I would be very interested in knowing the result.
IN pvp armor is a must. I have beat many many of my guildies in fights, and done much testing on armor vrs. no armor. In pvp from my test I have done upwards as twice as much damage against unarmored opponents. Then again the tkm i fought, well, it wasnt pretty. Long battle that I won only cause of root snare, and KD's.
Stim D's will become a pvp must, the well placed Stim, will determine the victor, imo.
Great info!
I would like to add what I have noticed.
Myself and a few friends did a little testing on TC this weekend. What I noticed while dueling is that the armor didnt really matter that much. I would let them hit me with the armor and the shots ranged from 300ish - 700ish (same person firing the same shot). Without the armor it did the same thing. I also tried it with various pieces on and off (i.e. wearing incomplete sets) and got the same results. We didnt do extensive tests as we were doing other things.
I would be curious to se what others have found in these respects. I still wear armor while doing PVE but really wonder if it is totally needed.
Well personally I think it depends on what yoru doing for Krayt hunting i'd highly recommend it. I've been doing alot of that lately (Especially for the great XP at 10K a kill with an inspiration buff and double Xp week it's hard to beat)
Now all of us in the group were level 60 something. grouped as we were with a master CM for healing we still took the occasional loss. And people were taking plenty of damage (especially as without a full template we didnt have the 3k health of a double mastery). Armor -definately- made a huge difference. Its also made a heck of a differnce in PVP. and even if somethign is really high level armo can make the difference between a one or two hit kill and getting away alive. I've had high level mobs almost 2 hit me. If it hadnt been for armor they WOULD have probably even just one shotted me. Bu the armor did soak up quite abit. Certainly enough that I just barely got away. WIth all of about 100hp.
is it as useful as before? No not quite. But it's still overall fairly useful and necessary.

Nice information. Have you also tested armors usefulness in PVP by any chance. I'm thinking that will be it's big role now. Especially with the health bonuses.
If the same leveling rules apply, then his example should hold. So, if you're level 80, armor is probably VERY useful for PvP. Otherwise, it's not.

I did a duel with my brother.
I found my armor absorbed 33% - 50% of the incoming damage in the duel.
I do not know why a duel plays out differently than regular combat.
I will keep looking.
