Thread: Need advice: Adv layers or Reg layers?

I have a stack of 30k resource deeds and I am trying to figure out if I should make the Adv layers with them or use them to make individual layers.

I haven't decided if I should go something like Tertius x2, Kin and Energy or Primus x2 andTertius x2.

Thoughts... Opinions...

Thanks!!

I hope you have a lot of the resource deeds! Layers eat a HUGE amount of resources. I did a four factory run (about 750 layers in each factory) of primus layers and it ate an entire 100k stack of neutronium. That was enough for something like 33 suits.

In my opinion, the only place to use resource stacks is for advanced core resources where you'll get more bang for the buck.

That's kinda why I was trying for the Adv layers since they do two stats each. How did your armor turn out with the Adv layers?

My advice is to skip layers alltogether.

If you're going to use resource kits, adv core resources are definitely the way to go.

Will that get me high enough resist though? I don't want to make crappy armor

Well I was only able to make +32 primus layers, and that added the expected +384 or so to kin and energy to the core. (You put 4 layers in a segment, and 3 segments into an advanced core.. so 32 * 12 = 384).

Definitely don´t put an energy AND a kinetic layer in the same segment... the two will cancel each other out! So you'll have used a billion resources for no additional gain.

I think energy layers are only useful when trying to get super high energy protection in a recon suit, and kinetic layers to get very high kinetic in an assault suit. Otherwise most situations call for primus layers. Don't bother with the other advanced layers.

There are other very obscure uses that might come up, but they should be pretty uncommon. For instance, a really rich BH who has some mando pieces might want all energy layered assault cores for fighting jedi. (*might* is the important word there)

Without layers, I get my recon to 4000+ kinetic, 6000+ energy, and 5000+ everything else. If I stuck 4 kinetic layers in, I'd get 4500+ kinetice 5500+ energy and 5000+ everything else.

Layers actually REDUCE the stats more than they increase. IE, your +80 kinetic layer is going to subtract -81 from your Energy rating.

So it sounds like Primus would be the way to go then. I can use those on both Assult and Recon armor.

Thanks a bunch for your advice guys!!

just to be sure you know this. Recon has a free Energy Layer. If you put Kinetic Layers in Recon you would be going backwards. Put 4 Energy Layers in Recon and you will get something like 4800 Kinetic, 7800 Energy. Place thise Kinetic Layers in Assualt Armor.

BUT - for example, if you have a pistoleer that does more creature hunting than NPC hunting.... they may wish to use the kin layers in a recon suit (as they can only wear recon)

So in this case (and similar) it may be useful to max the kin (and therefore reverse the 'free' energy layer)..... or am I missing something?

I had been thinking that way as well, attempting to help people stuck in a single armor type. For PvE it doesn't make a lot of difference, so no point layering there (not to mention the huge cost of armor decay and replacement). For PvP though it might make sense to try and balance out energy and kin in the non-battle cores (because your resist % gains are bigger raising up the lower number). This is assuming there are a lot of people PvP'ing who are stuck with one armor type though, and frankly I think people taking 2 masters with the same armor type are going to be rare (smuggler/pistoleer being the most common I'd guess).
